Air filter on our pickup was clear full of dog food. Lady at the oil change place says we have a packrat. I have put mouse poison in the engine compartment before. Any suggestions?

Poison will not work on a pack rat. Only way to keep them out if use it every day and or leave the hood open and of course the best way is having a couple cats. Before I had cats I had a truck that the cab would be full before the end of summer. Now that I have the cats no more pack rats

Been there! I have the muffler off my tractor to fit it in the garage and mice put a bunch of Kibbles and Bits in the exhaust manifold. Had a surprising shower when I fired it up!

My wife's X3 was running poorly and set off a Service Engine Soon light on the dash. I took it to a independent BMW serviceman and he took off the Ram air unit ahead of the air cleaner just ahead of the max air flow gadget. The ram air unit was clear full of wild bird seed. Mice in the garage, for sure. I had a bag full of fireworks in a cabinet that the mice got into also. They made a nest around the fire crackers. I found another mouse nest inside of a suitcase.

I have a dog that doesn't like cats. I have been catching them in the traps now using peanut butter.
