SLOW MOVING VEHICLE SIGN QUESTION

As many of you already know, I own a 59 Ford 641. I want to purchase a slow moving vehicle sign to mount on it. I found a site online and the only question I have is, "which mount should I get, and where does it mount?"

Most common seems to be to the back of the rear work light. I would get the two piece bracket that lets you pull it off without unbolting anything.

BTW I think your link is bogus "link_disallowed", comes up as DOA.

I have several brackets but normally use an S hook behind the seat and move the sign from one tractor to another. I have them screwed fast to the back of the wagons.

make sure you get a SMV sign that legal in your state. I know that Illinois is different than other states.

I use a spade type, like the one in Errin OH's link.
I have Grammer-style seats on my tractors, and use
self-tapping screws to attach the female part of the
bracket to the back of the seat. That wouldn't work
with a pan or Rest-O-Ride seat.

Check your state"s laws, they may differ between states, as to mounting placement.

Yes it is, and makes our SMV's about twice what just a "cheap" one is.

But back to placement: it doesn't matter legally. I prefer about eye level in the middle. Too high or low won't be seen as quick.

I also use DOT red/white reflector tape on the outer and top edges of my equipment, front and back. I want to be seen before someone runs into me. DOUG

Once you get your sign mounted I must caution you one thing. Last year I loaded up the hay rack with all sorts of scrap metal for the recycling yard. After I was done the load was taller than the tractor and my SMV was not visible from the rear. What to do; I removed the sign from it's mount on the tractor and tied it to the back of the load. Off to the scrap yard - after I got home I remembered the SMV sign was still tied to the back of the load which was now on it's way to the giant shredder machine. At $13 a pop buying a new sign cuts into the profit of selling scrap.

I look for old car stereo speakers with the extra large magnet (4 or 5") diameter..

Take the magnet off, drill a hole thru the center and countersink one side..
Mount your SMV sign on it and I can tell you, it WILL stay where you put it (watch your fingers!!)..
Way better than any I have seen anywhere else..!
