Anyone familiar with Case / CIH 2394 Tractors or similar?

Have an 1896 CIH with the 5.9, does NOT have sleeves. Does anyone know if the 2394 (150 horse) tractor has sleeves? TractorData doesn't say. Looking to get into something newer in a higher HP than the '86 series, but if the 2394 is sleeveless, not going down that road since I will have the tractor for half a lifetime and will likely see a rebuild, no sleeves equal monstrous machining bills.

The 2394 used the old 504 BDT Case engine. This was about the end of the line for this motor. It is a wet sleeve engine with three cylinder heads.

And it is common for these motors to need the ledges where the liners rest re-machined during an overhaul.

But it can be done quickly with the engine in the frame and most older Case dealers will have this handy tool.

I have overhauled several 5.9 Cummins in the late CIH tractors. Two had over 12,000 hours on them. I have yet to see one that needed bored. It seems that the bores must be hard or something. I measured them real well and they have been in tolerance.
I would worry more about the cost of overhauling a Case 504. I have seen several of them with bad blocks where the sleeves have worn the block.

Ford never used sleeves and claim it is cheaper and easier to bore than resleeve when doing a rebuild. Apparently the boring isn't the expensive part of a rebuild. The biggest thing is keeping the air filter clean. Considering an engine should get at least 10,000 hours before needing a rebuild, and you can bore at least a couple times(if just houred out), it's unlikely the rest of the tractor will out live the engine. I know some guys with a 2096 with 17,000 hours that has never been apart though. They also have Ford 9600 that has a good sleeveless engine. They say the Ford has about 40 more HP but is easier on fuel than the 5.9 Cummins.

Yes the 2394's have a sleeved engine. All Case 451 and 504 engines are wet sleeved. All 90 and 94 series tractors used the 451 or 504 engine. Except the 4890 and 4894/4994. Not sure about the 970 down but 1070 up used the 451 or 504 too with the exception of the 2870. Not sure about the smallest ones but the larger 96 series used the 5.9L CDC.
