What are these weeds and how do you get rid of them without killing zoysia grass and regular grass? They are taking over my yard. Thanks
George

I'd say the top one is henbit.......Winter annual that'll go away when it gets a little warmer, at least around 'here'.

Bottom one is lawn violets, tough to kill. Use Millennium Ultra at recommended rates. You may have to spray twice as the violets will resprout from underground stems.

I'm glad you posted the pics, I've seen a lot of the henbit that's in the top pic. I didn't know what it was either, but I've seen a TON of it here in central Oh. this year. Never really noticed it before. I got some in the flower beds so it's gotta go.

Many many years ago, my high school ag teacher said that any plant growing where you don't want it is considered to be a weed!
Ex: corn growing in a bean field. Corn is a weed.

Typically pretty easy to kill a broadleaf weed in a grass-type crop, which is what you have.

Tho you have a couple broadleaf weeds there that are tough ones, takes a good strong spray.

A good broadleaf killer, like Trimec, should work, and look on the label but typically is safe for most grass species.

Chickweed, henbit, creeping charlie. Easy to get rid of in cool season grasses, contact your cooperative extension service, they will have a list of what chemical controls each weed, in cool season grass. Problem in Zoysia, is that most broadleaf chemicals take the color out of it, if the zoysia is actively growing. If the Zoysia is dormant, just hit the lawn with roundup, at label rates, won't hurt the zoysia, at all. ZOYSIA MUST BE DORMANT, IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, DO NOT ATTEMPT! In the old days, in April, around here (central MD) you could light your dormant zoysia lawn on fire, and kill out all the weeds, thataway, but that wrks too well, the gooberment must put a shtop to zat, too much global varmingk und all of zat!

Like the others said, henbit and wild violets. The henbit will die out when it gets warm, but will come back next year. Can't make any recommendations on how to get rid of the stuff and not kill the zoysa.

I would suggest some soil samples to find out what fertilizer you need. Then once you've killed out the weeds, sock the fertilizer to the zoysa and get it to fill in. A good thick lawn makes it hard for the weeds to grow.

Crossbow just keep after it may take several applications over time. Won't hurt the lawn grass.

Ps get the pure stuff an mix it yourself.

Top picture is mostly Purple (or Red) Deadnettle. There are a few plants of Henbit in there too.
