OT Impaa Hub Assembly

Hey Guys I have a question:

The 2000-05 Impalas used two different hub assemblies. One had a plastic ABS sensor mount and the other a plastic - the Chevy Parts man when running my VIN and after visually confirming it has the metal ABS plate which isn't available aftermarket.

The Dealer told me that for the sake of liablity they never interchange the two - GM still makes it but MSRP is 380 bucks. With my Base Discount I can get it down to 300. The NAPA hub I bought with the plastic abs is 85 with my discount.

I also have to replace the CV Axle which I've done before and I know i can get new or reman'd.

My question is can you interchange the hubs safely?

Because of gas and other repairs to the car and my farm equipment and lost hours at work money has been extremely tight.

I appreciate whatever advice you can give me.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but take a look at rockauto.com and compare prices. Might be to your liking.

Good Luck,

Dave

I buy all my hubs on Ebay. Never had a bad one yet. You can "Buy It Now" with Free shipping for $37.00

I botched up thanks to my wacky laptop's multitouch.

The Hub on my car has the metal abs clip and the other hub is a plastic clip

If it fits the application, I wouldn't worry about metal or plastic. Needed a tierod end once for wifes stratus. Dealer 180 bucks (in germany), napa (brother checking) 60 something. rock auto between 8 and 38 bucks. Put the 8 buck one on it and after 7 years, it's still happy...........

As a GM dealer tech, the only difference I've ever noticed is with or without ABS. If it fits correctly, use it. If your parts man is like ours, they don't like to acknowledge there are less expensive parts through the GM parts system than what the vehicle was built with.

I had two dealers refuse to give the part number when I asked them for it so I could come in and specifically tell them I wanted.

The third one gave it to me and I did see it online cheaper for roughly 200 bucks. I just dont want to do anything that puts me at risk. No one could tell me why they switched designs and why they wouldnt interchange.

Is it the same modular plug?
