Did my good neighbor jobs today

I did a discing, and two mowing jobs for the neighbors. It would be ok with me if they never called, but they are friends. I charge them less, just about break even. I worked for a lady one time she told me my Dad only charged me 25.00 to disc her field. I told her that was a long time ago. Stan

I've been chargeing $125 for cutting andbaling a "neighbors"(rich horse guy-PICKY!)small hay field since 1991.Couple of years ago he decided that the hay needed to be raked so it would"dry better"Last year I raised the price to $200.Wow did he scream! He thinks I cheated him.How many other goods/services are the same price since '91?Next year he will find out-I'm not doing his hay-someone else will get to do it!

some people just dont get it my mom is one of those people. my step dad called me to ask if i can haul a backhoe for him (25 miles one way) he needs to dig up there septic of course my tractor hauler isnt big enough for that so i say just go over to town (7 miles) to the hardware store and rent there mini excavater i rented it last summer for $130 he laughed said why would i rent when i can use for free i said whats it going to cost you to have that free one trucked? probably more than it would to rent one. guy thats letting him borrow backhoe said he wont let it get loaded on a trailer rated less than 20,000 lbs so in my eyes thats going to cost dearly to truck

Them horse people just kill me. They drive in with their $60,000 duelly pickup pulling a $20,000 horse trailer and complain that I am charging $4.00/bale for hay.

Any time I get questioned about my prices, I have a couple of stock answers, the usual one is, "When was the last time YOU worked for $2.50 an hour?"

If it's along time customer I am usually not quite that short with them. If it's Joe Blow off the street, I might be even ruder.

I do understand "sticker shock", having been on the other side of the fence more than once, and I don't want to price myself out of the market, but on the other hand I am not giving anything away, unless I choose to.
