Glad your doing well Allan. Now it's my turn. Went to the doc this week and she said I have cataracts. One eye is really bad.
She is going to fix it next month when I can get in the hospital for a day.
Gonna stick a needle in the eye and blow it up, vaccum it out and insert a new lense.
Sounds like real fun.
Runs in the family...knew it was just a matter of time.
Heck, maybe I can find some of those tools in the shop now...reckon?

Everyone I talk to who has had this done (including my Mom) says it is a walk in the park as far as the patient goes.

Totally clears up that sight. :>)

Good luck to ya, Pard,

Allan

Procedure takes about 2 minutes, no blood, no pain and the patient is awake the whole time while the Dr. explains everything he's doing. He might even video tape it for you. My dads was on video. The most important thing is to talk to optometrists and other people to get references on a good cataract specialist. My dad went to a private clinic(Gimbel eye center)and said it was like having a new set of eyes. He had to pay extra for a private clinic but another client of his optometrist's didn't want to pay extra and had it done at the hospital with bad results. The so called specialist at the hospital scratched his cornea's. I imagine nowadays that most specialists will have a lot of experience, so there shouldn't be any problems.

Had one done last July; nothing to it........as far as procedure. Choose an experienced doctor. I knew at the time, but have forgotten how many my doctor does each day.......18 or 20, as I recall. Sight was better immediately.....20/20, but I was not informed of all the issues. For 2 or 3 months, fluorescent lighting drove me nuts; the flickering that most of us are not aware of was very evident, but I no longer notice it. I also have a LARGE 'floater' that I didn't know was there; apparently the cataract had it hidden. Insurance paid for a fixed lense; there is an 'adjustable' lense on the market........for an additional cost. It's supposed to negate the need for glasses. Neither my optometrist nor the surgeon recommended it. I'm near-sighted in the other eye and with the new, far-sighted lense in the other, I don't need glasses. I would definitely have it done again.

Yeah, I have some small 'floaters" in the other eye, but that is why I went it...I have a large one in this eye.
Will see what happens. I would just like to get it over with...hate waiting...it's rougher that way. But, gotta wait my turn.

Had one done Jan. 20th and the other the 27th, not much to it. I just got the standard lenses, the variable ones where you don't need glasses were $3900. more. After a couple days of healing up I got the biggest kick out looking at things in detail that I kind of forgot about like trees, instead of being a bush on top of a big stick now they have limbs and even bark. Should have had it done a year and a half ago.
