Got this message today..

"virtual memory minimum too low"

What are the ramifications here. what does it mean??

Should I place the computer on a higher shelf.. lol
Thanks .

Pretty much ignore it.
You can probaly increase your "RAM" if you want.
If you don"t know how it is a 2 second job at a computer store.
It is best to bring the specs of your computer with you also.
Some of these memory cards are not cheap so bring the Master Card also.

Another thing to do every few days is go to Start and select All Programs and then select Accessories and then System Tools and then Disk Cleanup and run it.

Virtual memory has nothing to do with your ram. It is a part of the hard drive that is set aside by the operating system to use as an additional area to use as a "Swapping bin".

I usually set mine at about a third of the actual ram size and make both the minimum and maximum the exact same size. Speeds 'er up because the processor isn't calculating the area size before using it. :>)

If it's windoze xp or newer, the computer probably readjusted virtual mem automatically. Vmem is just the space on the hard drive the computer uses when it runs low on physical mem. Vmem is slower than pmem. I'd double the physical mem.

Virtual memory is what Windows "thinks" it has to operate in. Virtual memory is a combination of the fast RAM (chip memory) and the swap file on the hard drive.

Normally, Windows just works in RAM unless it needs to "spill over" onto the much slower hard drive memory.

In practice, if you are getting that error, though, it usually means you have a "memory leak" in that some program is allocating work memory and then not properly releasing it when finished.

If you are using Windows XP and as long as you have at least 256-512Mb RAM, it is almost certainly a poorly written or damaged application that is really causing the trouble.

Allen: Would you mind telling a dummy how you set the minimum & maximum. I know just enough to be dangerous to my machine. thanks and I am glad you aregetting your finger memory back. James inok

I did install an "Advanced System Optimizer" and since then. slow start up [10 mins] and all the troubles.Nothing moves until it finishes.
Windows XP.

so go to add and remove programs and remove the optimizer program....

run your windows tools,,,defragment-disc clean up-and check your disk for errors
