i am working on a woods rm500-2 finish mower.i am trying to get the shaft out of one of the spindle hub assembly so i can put new bearings in it.i took out the roll key that goes to through the shaft i pounded on it a little with a brass hammer but it doesnt seem to want to move so i thought i would ask on here before i do something stupid and ruin it.though it may need to be pressed out in a press?
thanks

It's been about 20 years ago so I can't recall exactly-----yes it's just a little pin------and yes it does just press apart----PRETTY TIGHT FIT. Broke one and bought all three new assemblies. Hope you have better luck.

I replaced the shaft and bearings in one of the spindles on a Woods belly mower. If I remember correctly there is no provision for bearing adjustment after initial assembly. You are to drill the hole for the pin upon assembly. So I would say it's just rusted/set up and needs a little more help.

It may have a half circle clip to stop the shaft from coming out. I had a post hole auger that had that type of clip but didn't know it was there. It came apart though but took more than 5 tons to do it, so I had a shop put it in a 100 ton press. It didn't take 100 tons but made a big bang when it came apart.

The shaft comes with the bearing and housing for a little over $100. I tried to take mine apart also but ever since have always replaced the whole assembly. Much easier and faster. Time is money!
