McCormick Deering 15-30

I have recently aquired a 15-30 with no serial tag. I found a casting date on the cast frame of 8/13/28. I'm assuming this tractor to be an early 1929 model. Does any one know if this is correct? Does anyone know if there is a way to determine the serial # with the tag missing? I'm trying to find a service manual for this tractor, but I understand there was a design change for 1929 and I want to buy the right book. Thanks in advance for any help. Mark

This forum may have a service manual. There's a man in Iowa that's restoring a 22-36 and his manual covers the 15-30. I will contact him to see where he bought his manual. You're smart in getting a manual as they're very useful. Hal

i have never seen the serial # stamped under the clutch housing. only the day, month and year it was built.

Mark,
The three books that concern your tractor are:

1. OVERHAULING McCormick-Deering 10-20 and 15-30 Tractors...as told by actual photographs
2. Instruction Book McCormick-Deering 15-30 Gear Drive Tractoer
3. Parts Catalog McCormick-Deering 15-30 Gear Drive Tractor. One of them is TC-4-B. I can't remember which that is for, the 4 1/2 inch bore or the 4 3/4 inch bore.

Sometimes you can find the original manuals on eBay, of which I have some.
Also, you can find reprints.
I guess you'd expect to pay from 15 to 30 dollars for each...ball park estimate.
Also, you can go to a website and get, for free, some information about your tractor:
The website is:
http://www.steel-wheels.net/literature.html
Go down to I.H.C. on the page and there you will find many manuals that you can look at.
I have bought several of the above through eBay and at least one from Binder Books in Oregon. Binder Books has a website that you can easily find through Google.

Do you have a 15-30 (4 1/2 inch bore) or a 22-36 (4 3/4 inch bore)?
There are parts manuals for both.
Any questions, just e-mail me.
Tom

P.S. I am currently restoring a 22-36.

the simplest way to tell is:
v belt and water pump = 22-36
flat belt and no waterpump = 15-30
there is a few other improvements also on the 22-36, such as an oil filter and the rad cores are bigger.also the 4.75 pistons and rpm increase. the serial # plate still refers to it as a 15-30 though. the horse power is noted on the plate as 22-36. so thats how you tell what you have, pretty easy.

Thanks for your response to my questions. The only markings on the underside of the frame casting are a casting date and a casting part number. Could it be located in another area?
