OT,,,,, Winter project, late getting near done....

Hung the gates this weekend. Thanks for the help with the concrete, pumped the water out, and started pouring, used a dry mix as you all recomended and it worked great. Holes were 24" by 6' 6" took a lot of concrete!

Need to order the blocks for around the posts, they are to be dry stacked, shouldn't take too long to do them. Need to wait a awhile, they are 41 lbs a peaces, 68 blocks per post, 2,788lbs, figure it is better to allow the concrete to setup good.

I admire your handiwork/craftmanship. You've got something to be proud of. Looks like you've got a real pretty/inviting place.

Looks like hours of work & a finished product
to be very proud of..

I like the added toush of the cat walking on top....

Conduit was run between the posts, and cast into the cement..... someday we may add a remote opener. Had to trench between them for it. Also one was run to the outside, where power will be brought in. Have power about 300' away, figured I would use it rather than solar.

There is a jack with a 2x4 in the center, holding the gates until the concrete sets. The picture was taken about 2 hours after we completed the concrete work. Gates are heavy, of course trying to pull the posts in, was afraid my staking and clamping would not hold up, jack keeps them level.

Nice work, Lloyd. There is a fellow on highway 34 between Newberry and Winnsbororo that has thay type of gate but I like yours a little better. He has all animals and birds in his.

Did you cut it out with a plasma cutter? How thick is the sheet steel?

Thanks everyone. Everything is 11ga, 2x3 tubing, 1x1 tubing and the sheet steel. All the art work is raised 1/4" above the frame, allowed powder coat to get inbetween, and hopefully will stop water from being trapped.

Yes, this will be our new home, just completed site prep,,, starting construction on the barn in a few months. Building it first, don't want to get stuck with 2 house's. Plan is to complete the barn, put our house for sale, when it sells move stuff to the barn and live in our rv well we build the house.

I love to see stuff like this- despite all our troubles, innovation and hard work is still alive and well in our country, even though it is getting harder and harder to find. Nice job.

That looks real nice!!! It has been fun watching your project take shape this winter. Keep up the good work, and get those stones layed up.
