Value question but I hate to ask

Ok so looking at buying a 1976 Dodge 3/4 ton truck. It is a 4X4 and has an electric over hyd dump bed. Bed needs some TLC since it has rusted out some. Truck if flat out extra ugly and many years ago it was rolled over as in back in the 80s. It is ruff and ugly but runs well and will pass inspection in Missouri. Has a 360 4 barrel and an automatic transmission. It does also have the older split type rims and the tires are good but showing some weather checking. Every thing works as it should but as I said is so ugly that most would walk away from it. So what is it worth. In my area an appeaser says any $x4 that runs and drive is worth $1200 or better

It may be worth that if you value the dump bed. A 1976 should have had one piece 16.5 rims I think. Jack up the front end and check the front wheel bearings, they are a problem area on these trucks.I would look for one 20 years newer for the same money you will spend fixing on this one. If you want to just drive it as is, may not a bad deal. Nothing better than a pre-dented farm truck!

Don't forget that tires will not pass in some states if they are beyond a certain number of years old. I don't know about MO but that's the way it is in NH and others have mentioned it here. I s'pose it could depend on what type of reg. you are getting for it. New tires could run $600.00

its the high price of scrap that might hurt you as far as the value, try 7to 8 hundred and walk away, you might get it Its gonna be hard to keep gas in the tank wont it?

Had a '75 Dodge with the same setup and it was one of the toughest trucks I've ever owned. Here in NY the price of scrap is high enough that lots of people are offering $300-500 for any vehicle in any shape, which drives the price of actual running vehicles up beyond that. Still, $1200 might be a bit high--I paid half that for mine 15 years ago, and parts are getting harder to find for the older Dodges. If the split rims are 16 1/2", tires for them are outrageous and very few people will work on them if you can't do it yourself. I ditched mine for a set of 16" rims and tires from an old Ford (they bolted right up) and they worked fine.

I would say 500.Its a 1976,no matter what else it has on it.I know a farmer that had one of those he bought new back in the 1970s and he wore it out, beat the heck out of it and hauled it to the junk yard a long, long time ago.
The main thing why its not worth much is the split rims. You will need to go to a tire place and buy tubeless wheels and tires for it if you run it a lot.Otherwise you will have to fix all of your own flats because you wont find a tire place anywhere that will probably. So those tires and wheels could be another 500 dollars, for used ones, and then you would have 1000 dollars in a 1976 Dodge thats not worth it. You would probably never get 1000 out of it if you sold it either.

Sounds like you throw a cat threw the floor board running 60 MPH - A tad high - 300 maybe -title cost and etc. will run it up.

i got 2 of these,a 76 and a78 ,both 3/4 t power wagons.
Tough buggers they are.
I bought the first one in 96 for $500,its stll used and running good.
I got the other one for free,i drove it home.
It has a bumper bale loader on it. It has now a bend frame rail because of it.

Most of the tire shops in my area will work on split rims and do not give a guy grief over doing so. I also do have rims laying around on my farm that will fit right on. Both single and dual type. I will probably put duals on the back just because of the dump bed

I'm getting it for $500 and figure to work on some of the small things then this fall when people start looking for a 4X4 truck because of winter put it up for sale and ask $1200 and figure on getting $700-1000 out of it depending on what all I do to it to fix it up. I have a set of duals I can stick on that might help it sell also

In my experience with Dodge trucks they are pullers and tough, but dont let your wrenches get too far out of sight with em. My Grandpa swore by em but he was always wrenchin.

My local tire place still works on split rims WITHOUT A SAFETY CAGE. Someday they will make the news.
