I have not been on here much the last week or so. My oldest grand son was injured in an ambush attack in Afghanistan two weeks ago. He is a West Point Grad and then completed Ranger training, active duty now for six years. He volunteered for active combat duty. His unit lost six of the ten men in it. He was shot five times and had a severe concussion. My wife, son and DIL flew to Germany to see him in the hospital. He is now being transfered back to a state side hospital. The wife got home last night. She says he will have a complete recovery. My mind has been in many other places the last several days. I hope my telling about my service did not glorify things for him. If you chose to serve this great country my thoughts and prayers will always be with you.

never got to serve, was last on draft list back in the 70"s when they stopped drafting. knew plenty of friends that did. even though we don"t know each other, i will say a prayer at church for him. "family first", tractors will always be there.

Horray for your grandsons recovery. You will not here any complaints from me on posting that. Your grandson has my deepest respect.

I know it is sad but be 1000% sure he gets a copy of all his records so in the future if he need help he can prove he was injured in the service. Sorry to say this but the military is extra good at making sure they loose the records and once lost it is hard to prove an injury. I know I am still fighting a fall that caused a leg problem but oh well at least I might be able to help some one else

Thanks to your grandson and to his family for his service. Also, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of his comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. God bless all of those who serve.

Great to hear he's gonna be OK. What Old says is of the utmost importance. He needs to get a copy of them and HANG onto them. They'll sure come in handy later on in life. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Keith

Glad he's OK. Did he get any neat visitors at Landstuhl?

Sure he has sense enough to take care of his records. Keith and Old are just remembering when their records fell out of the pony express rider's saddlebags

Thank him for his service and I can't imagine what you went through. Hope all goes well for a speedy recovery. Rick

Glad to hear that he is going to be fine, and thank him for serving our country. American soldiers are at the top of my hero list.

glad to hear hes going to be ok,thank him from all of us and we wish you and all your family the best of luck in the future. Nice to hear from you again ,keep us posted....Larry

JD Don't worry about what you told him about your service. I am sure he knew what he was getting into when he joined. Glad to hear that he is going to be ok. When he gets home make sure he has some quite time with just his family around him. I know people mean well. But to many at once can be tiring.

I agree with the other guys. Make sure he has copies of all of his medical records. They seem to get lost or go missing. When something shows up that the VA dosen't want to cover. Happened to my father.

Tell him welcome home for me and I thank him for his service.

Glad to hear your grandson is doing well. I hope he can amke a full complete recovery, many can't unfortunately. Thank him for his service.

JD, Our prayers are with this fine young man! Give him time to heal,he'll be just fine and tell him "Thanks for serving" !...Jim in N M

Billy: Thank you for your service too. As far as records I have always kept copies of mine. He has a complete set of his too. There are several of the guys that I used to serve with in the upper ranks now. He is getting what he needs and deserves, they watch out for him. He is going for his thirty in the Army. He is engaged to a wonderful lady that flies choppers. She is in Afghanistan too. She commands a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk.
Billy I was in Vietnam 69-73 and then Laos 73-74. State side until off active duty in 1977. Then reserves until 1997.

JD I was out in the Tonkin Gulf on a bird farm. USS SARATOGA CVA 60. Flew into Da Nang a lot on the way back to Subic Bay. Navy 68-74. National Guard 74-92.

Good to hear your Grandson is expected to have a full recovery. Thank him for his service for me. Far as records, my major records as to where and when I served were burned up in that fire they had years ago, and also my dad's who was in World War I. I have done several searches to try to figure out just where he was and when but I just have to rely on memory of what he talked about which was not all that much and I do have a copy of his discharge telling when he was inducted and discharged. Not much else. One sea rch I did showed his name on a payroll with a bunch of other soldiers. He had a disability from being gassed over in the trenches of the Argonne Forest but can't even find anything on that. So, yes, keep track of all records.

Glad he survived and should physically heal up.
My cousin's husband had some challenges. When returning to a non combat roll after being in battle.

Glad to hear your grangson is recovering well.
I know he will be glad to recover too. Thanks for his service.
I was in the Korean War in 1952-1953. Came home with out A scratch. I think about all people who serve our Country.
Thanks to all.
