Tragedy in WI

The same thing happened here a few years ago except the tractor was on the road and the driver was going way too fast with his kid in the cab with him. No way to stop in time. Still a tragedy that he'll live with the rest of his life.

I hope they have a lot of GOOD FRIEND's & FAMILY That will help them get through this .
It will be Real hard to Deal with.A friend of mine had the same thing happen to him at his Dad's farm. When I met him I didn't know about it for over 15 years, his Wife told me one day ,She said He doesn't talk about it,she said that the door came open in the driveway,it was winter & couldn't stop in time.So they had to leave his Dads farm, and get there own. so they could Deal with the loss. It's just sad thing to have happen.I know My Uncle's were Case Dealers & as a kid we heard about all the Accident's farm related.

My sincere condolences to the family. What a thing to have to live with.

Those things can have life-long effects.

Local contractor and son were working with a boom truck near power lines- son swung the boom into the line, father was electrocuted. Worst of it was, son was the "heir-apparent", and was the only one to carry on the business. Of course, the guilt with how he came into that position just consumed him.

Father and son were very close, and son couldn't get over it- took to drinking, and eventually had to have a liver transplant. His marriage broke up in the process. I see him once in awhile, and it seems like only now, after 30 years, has he finally been able to come to some peace with the situation. One moment of inattention literally wrecked two (three?) lives.

Unbelievable pain will be with that family, a long time. A local farmer here that I know was at a neighbors with his semi. Upon leaving a toddler fell under the trailer wheels and was killed. Utterly tragic both events. Sorry does not seem enough, but what more can one say?

How tragic. My 2 year old loves to ride on tractors, but I rarely give her a ride, and it is always in a cab tractor. Well, this sure proves those aren't always safe either. My strongest condolences to that family.

According to many of the invinceable posters here. They are strong, fast and clever enough. To work around bare pto shafts, ride on tractor fenders or stand on drawbars. For thousands of tractor hours and decades of years.
For somebody else yes they should be careful but the invincible poster is ok taking chances.

Yes. You and DC747 mentioned it first, my hunch someone's dad was plowing a bumpy field in 3rd hi or some timesaving foolishness. When people on this site have to ask 'what gear and gear range to plow or mow in' yeah, no one wants to begin in 1st low and judge mechanical and human safety from there. When I got a kid with me, everything is done dead slow, and it's in my field of vision at all times. Farming always was the most dangerous profession, but soldiers and cops want the spotlight, maybe best that way, or we will all have to go by ohsa rules at home, that will be the time to quit, but tragedies like this swing the limelight back to us....

That is terrible! Even when we think we are safe we are suprised, often in unfortunate and sad ways. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Super sad.

I saw a kid 11 years old or so standing up riding in the back of his dad's pickup down a side street last summer. Super stupid parent.

My cab tractor has keyed locks on the outside of the side doors. If you lock the door, you CANNOT open it from the inside.

Gordo

Nearly had a tragdy like that here today. The old order Amish who tap my woods were getting ready to make the last gather and pull up taps. While they were getting ready, three toddlers played on the wagon. something spooked the horses. they ran 4/10th of a mile down the road to another amish farm where they ran into a fence corner and stoped, fortunatly, the kids all held on and the only injury was a bloody nose and a couple of teeth knocked out.

Very sad thing to happen. I don't think any kid should be on are near a tractor that is moving. I see it all the time around here. Kids come to see grandpa and he takes them for a tractor ride. We have been lucky so for. No one hurt or killed.

Sooo sad and even sadder for the parent. I can't even imagine the pain for what he or she is going through. Kids should never go before the parents! WOW, horrible!

I fell out of a car that way once when I was about 3 or 4. It was a Model A Ford with suicide back doors. I was eating an apple and wanted to throw the core out the door, so I opened the door and naturally the wind caught it and I went with it.

We were only going about 30 mph on a gravel road. It was winter, and I was bundled up in a snow suit and landed in a bunch of dead weeds in the ditch. Of course, my dad stopped as soon as he could, but those Model A's weren't all that great on brakes. I vaguely remember it. My dad came running back up the road, and I came running down the road yelling at him why didn't he stop right away.

Once my wife heard of it, she found a lot she could blame on that one incident. Or the time I fell off the machine shed roof and was knocked out for awhile. I told my parents I fell off the roof and slept for awhile.

That is a real tragedy. I just about had it happen to me. My youngest brother is eighteen years younger than me. He always was with me on the farm until he went to school. I had a Case 2870 tractor. They had lots of room in the cab. He was riding on the floor playing with some little match box cars. He went to stand up and crabbed the door handle. I just caught him by the neck of his shirt. After that any child riding with me was in a seat. I have modified many plastic car seats to fit the different cab tractors I have had over the years. Cheap way to make a safer ride.
