Kubota a worthy replacement for Ford?

Hello, I found a Kubota B7100 gear with FEL 4WD for sale. I"m guessing it doesn"t have LIVE pto or powersteering, but I don"t know much about Kubotas and their endless numbering system. Owner says it could use some paint, but only shows 700 hours. I would love to have a loader and 4WD, but would this be a good replacement for My 56 Ford 650 that is in great shape? I just do general grounds maintanece, plow snow, and run a 6 ft finish mower and a 5 ft bush hog occasionally. Any thoughts? Asking price is $3200.Thanks.

JCD,

I don't know one thing about a Kubota anything, but I just looked at external_link. It appears that the B1700 is about 15 hp. If your 650 ever grunts under the work that you do with it, I would think that the B1700 would be too small to do your jobs.

Good luck with your decision.

The Kubota B7100 tractor (less loader) weighs 1135 lbs., has 16 engine HP and 13 PTO HP. It has an aluminum differential housing. Your 650 (less loader) weighs 2775 lbs. and has 34 PTO HP. The Kubota can handle a light-duty 5 ft. finish mower but a light-duty 4 ft. bush hog would be a handful. I would suggest keeping the Ford, at least for awhile, until you see if the Kubota can actually accommodate your needs.

I think the Kubota would fit in with the Ford
as it could do things the Ford couldn't but the Ford has more power and rides and handles way better.

I have a B1750. It is a 4wheel hydrostat. I bought it new in 1989. Never done anything but change the oil and put fuel in it. It is a great little tractor.

I would think the 5' bush hog is way too much for the tractor. I may be biased, but am looking for one that size just for gardening. Please let me know where it is if you do not want it. My 6610 is too big and does not have a slow enough first gear for tilling.

I'm not going to say anything against the B7100 but it's not in the same class as the Ford by any means. IIRC the 7100 is basically a sub-compact.... and it's not going to run a 5-6' mower for you.
It's in the class to save you a lot of work with a shovel and wheel barrow and it'll do that quite well. Probably plow some snow fairly well too... but don't expect the world of it. Price sounds fair if it works well.

i think your going to find while the fel is handy that kubota is half what your 650 ford is, it could compliment it in some areas but its just not big enough to replace it if your doing some real work with your ford, plus if the kubota is a hydro tranny it will be slower on ground speed, i used one 2 weeks ago, it did fine, i thought, untill i used the ford 2000 utility i had here for a carb cleaning, last friday, the ford did the same job 2 hours faster

thank you for the replies. Tractor is in Windsor OH about 35 miles east of Cleveland.

N0.

Not nearly enough power or weight for a 6' finish mower or a 5' rotary cutter.

You haven't truly lived until you've bushhogged or pasture harrowed with a little tractor- it just pounds the puddin' out of you. We have a 19 hp JD compact utility- great little tractor, wouldn't be without it, but once on the pasture harrow was a big plenty.

Like the others have said, I doubt that one would handle your implements, anyhow.

I have a b7100 fwd and an 8n(half the tractor of your 650). Still no comparison. The 7100 is a great little garden tractor. It won't handle the jobs you want to do.

That is cheap enough, but I'm with the rest of the opinions that it's just not enough power or weight to replace what you have. If it were the only tractor you had, it would be just great, but after you step off a 30+ HP tractor down under 20, you'll notice the difference right away. Kubotas are great machines, but it sounds like your needs are greater than this machine could do.

Tom in Tn you looked up B 1700 not B 7100 not that there is a big diffrence but one big one. The B 7100 was never offred with power steering so with a loader we usually ended up having to buy it back or trade the customer out of it. Just was not a good loader tractor where when the B 1700 4 wheel came out with powersteering was a better loader tractor. Everyone is right in that the B7100 is not in the weight range of the ford. Sold a lot of them for over 9 years I guess that is why KUBOTA left them in the line up so long they just seemed to fit the bill for a lot of people and were somewhat cheap for the times.
