O.T.---Weather

I have lived in N.W. Alabama all my life. When I was a kid, in the 60s, I do not remember having Tornados, Hail, and High Wends in the middle of winter--Jan. and Fed., in particular.
Today it seems like we have severe weather, of this type, all year long.
Is it just that I don't remember or has the weather changed that much over the years?

Look way back in history weather runs in 100 year cycles and also 500 and 100 year cycles and we are just in one of the many cycles. I remember as a kid we would get 2 or 3 times as much snow as we do now and it seems that we are heading back into the cycle of more snow again. But ya in some ways it does seem to be odd but then we have not lived long enough to go through all the cycles.

A man once told me humans have poor memories of weather. At the time, he was talking about how winters always seemed like more snow when we were younger.

Number 6 deadliest happened in Jan '04
7th longest path was Jan 1885.

I'm not saying it hasn't been worse in the last few years, but it might be better for the next few........

Edited to make clear #6 deadliest was 1904.... not 2004, I forgot we are in a new century.

One thing is for sure, when bad weather such as tornadoes hit, there are usually more people in the path of these things that get tossed around simply because there's more people these days. That and the media's ability to "sensationalize" things probably make things seem worse, or out of the norm.

To me though, there's no doubt we're on a weather swing from one way to another.

The thing that worries me though is drought. There are more mouth's to feed these days and with the way the population is going, a severe drought to the likes of the dust bowl days would be catastrophic.

If you think meth-heads are bad with stealing anything that isn't tied down to feed the appetite of their habit, I can only image what a country of hungry people would resort to just to eat. Thinking about it honestly scares me.

Not far from where I live, there was a 12 acre peach farm. The owner stated, a few years ago, that he could expect one good year out of three. If the weather didn't cause damage the insects did. He was interview on local TV and he said it had been five years since he had made a profit and he would find another way to make a living.
Just sad to drive by that piece of property and see all the fruit trees gone

Howdy,
Old I'm with you 100% on this one as I look out the window and see more snow than anything else.
What has thawed turned to mud, so we have to sit and wait for better weather. Weatherman is still giving wind chill temps.

Either way I wish the weather would just make up its mind and either stay cold or get warm. Yesterday it was in the mid 80s and windy and today it is a tad bit below 50 and still windy plus we got rain last night so the cool feels even colder
