OT Last weeks project

I am a trim carpenter, and was assigned this wainscotting job. Took all week, as I also had to make all the trim. First we glued up the laminate, then the maple 1x6 base, and the 1x2 cap.

Looks good. What material did you use for laminate? Maple sure is nice for trim, you don't see it used that much.

The laminate is a Wilsonart plastic laminate, attached with NON flammable contact cement. I had heard that Maple does not take stain consistently, and it was proved on this project!

My experience has also proven Maple does not stain well at all. When I do use Maple I usually use a clear poly finish. I have a little success with a very light stain or using a wood conditioner first. But it seemed after using the conditioner, the wood really didn't want to take any stain at all.

I have issues with Maple as well.

I would be curious to see the final product when it is put together, I am having trouble visualizing how that will look when finished. Not sure "I" would like it. My first thought was the wainscoting was some sort of chalk board surface.

Vito, it is an expansion to a Godfathers Pizza. Adding some additional seating and a party room.
