Potassium Nitrate - sources?

Potassium nitrate - need a source of two or three pounds. Need to rot some stumps. Really don't want to buy the stuff in the small packages at the garden supply for inflated prices. Any body got some ideas for suppliers?

PS: Have a degree in chemistry, can probably handle it safely!

Nope, gonna let it soften up the stump a bunch, soak it in diesel, and burn it out. I got lots of various stuff to go BANG! but don"t want to do that this close to the house...

I tried making my own black powder back in my younger days. Finally got a batch to "sparkle" Never was successful at much more.

Wish I had a source of something reliable to go "bang" Not much fun making corner post holes anymore. We could buy dynamite up till about 1988 or so.

I've got about 50 stumps and counting each weekend. Most are locust and mesquite. I'm trying the cheap way first to just kill the stumps. I cut the stumps low enough to get the bush hog over them, then chainsawed an X on the stump and sprayed them well with a mix of Tordon RTU cut with 50% diesel. We'll see. The Tordon was $10 a bottle at TSC as compared to what was suggested which is the Remedy which was allot more expensive.

We'll see if they die. Trying to cut them low is heck on my chainsaw blade. Catch a little dirt and it's just a matter of time before I start stretching and wearing out the chain.

I've got a few stumps that I sprayed and then piled allot of the tree's timber on top and I'm waiting to try and burn out the stump once it dries out a bit.

I think once I'm finished clearing the land I'm going to go ahead and rent the stump grinder from Home Depo for right at $100 for 24 hours and plan on keeping it running all day. Again, we'll see.

Once thing I've learned about locust and mesquite though. If there's a thorn on an acre of land, my tractor will find it. I've been a Slim pumping fool lately trying to keep tires up.
