Toads.............

Got a pond not far from our place that is on about an acre of untouchable ground. Toads come by the gazillions a few days this time of year to do thier thing and leave eggs before going back to wherever they came from to catch bugs. Unbelieveable and the stuff nightmares are made of. You can't look at a spot a foot square without seeing at least one and then you'll see several all clutched together around one. Picked up a blob yesterday that had about ten hanging together. May be old news to some of you but I had never seen anything like it til a couple years ago and then this year. Wife took a bunch of pics, I'll figure out the easiesr way to post them later.

We have quite a population of em at our place, I think all the riding areas with the soft footing for the horses, draws em in as well as the abundance of insects.

I leave a florescent light on by a doorway, nightlight if you will, they line up as if an audience and face the light as if it were a stage, I have seen quite a few at one time, must be a good place to catch insects at night. I believe these are american toads, supposed to live for 30 years or so? We kinda work around em and leave em alone.

I've also noticed that there are 2 less common species of frog, pickerel and leopard, 30 miles south I've never seen one, supposed to mean the environment is healthy, they have quite the pattern on em, and would seemingly easily win those races at the fairs for the kids to participate in !

Why Not Grab a bucket full, sell em to the ugly ladies for kissing, Tell em there is a Prince Charming inside each and every one of the frogs. The kiss will release the bad spell the witch put on em. When the prince arrives, their( ladies) wish will come true and they can live in the castles along the Rhine River In magnificent splendor. Now how's that for a story with a happy ending??? If they (frogs) were bull frogs, WHAT A SWELL MESS OF FROG LEGS YOU COULD HAVE FOR SUPPER.Now I'm hungry for frog legs. Time to get the B.B.gun out, and the cane pole with treble hook and get to the river. lol LOU.

Plowed up a bunch of snakes, couple springs back. Apparently they were shacking up in an abandoned ground mole tunnel. Made the next round, and here they were, 'bout twenty of them in a mass, trying to get untangled, in the furrow.
