OT Japan Impact

I pretty much avoid the news because it is imcomplete and bias. However, I did notice a Chevy Silverado plant was closing for two weeks. Also Ford advised their dealers to stay away from ordering black or red vehicles. Both are due to a problem with supplies as a result of the Tsunami in Japan. I noticed an add today "Toyata Tacoma built in Texas by Texans". Question - has Toyota or Honda or the other Japanese companies that build products here experienced any supply shortages? Just curious and as I say I don't pay much attantion to the news, so other's could have reported shortaages as well.

Last report I heard all the major auto manufacturers were having parts shortages.

Plus, a fair amount of electronics come from the area affected too.

Last I heard, Toyota and Subaru have cut out all their overtime...but the regular shifts are going as scheduled, for now.

A friends wife works for Honda. He told me last nite that there are going to be lay-offs in the near future because of parts shortages...

Yea, and they just reported that here in the upstae of SC that they have detected trace amounts of radiation from Japan! Geez, I wonder if they would have checked it somewhere other than near a nuclear power plant if they still would have gotten a trace amount.

Buzzman, was it you that was talking about chilie over elbows at one point? or was it Ultradog? I made chilie today and told my wife lets try it over elbows, so we did boy it was great! J

JOHN M: "trace amounts" of Fukushima are all over the west coast, and reported in Iceland; with the usual circulation patterns, will be over most, if not all, of Northern Hemisphere...
JAYinNY: Chili over elbow macaroni?? Isn't ANYTHING sacred anymore??

Before folk get all worried about a wee wiff of short lived contamination from Japan. Have your own basement tested for radon gas.
Radon gas is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Before you have radiation outside you have to have radiation inside (ie a leak). Monitor alarms would be sounding if such a problem existed and the plant would immediatelty have to declare an "unusual event" and rate it for severity, reporting it to the NRC.
Also, incase you misunderstood your local teleprompter readers on the news channel, there are no US plants in danger of a tsunami or currently melting down.
