Ford-New Holland merger

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the merging of Ford with New Holland. How do you think it turned out? I would say for the then-Ford dealers here it was a boon as a lot of them did not previously have New Holland. At the same time some successful operations that had New Holland lost them because they did not have Ford. The worst fears never came to be as a lot of farmers worried that Ford would dismantle the New Holland product line saw that it remained untouched and not even a stripe of blue and white paint mixed in. In hind sight it only delayed for a few years the consolidation that would take place eventually bringing us to CaseNH.

Versatile suffered more so than NH.....they lost their colors where as NH didn't get painted blue.

And parts availability for my FiatAllis bulldozer is better than ever right at my local New Holland dealer.
Also- someone was asking about the AC 5050 (Fiat)tractor recently. If there is a way to figure out what model Fiat it is, I'd guess parts would be available for that also.
It does seem strange to get parts in the same packaging at my NH and CaseIH dealers though.

Our local dealer either lost or dumped MF years ago and now is New Holland, so I guess it's worked out good for them in my area.

My New Holland 630 round baler has a BLUE Ford oval on it.

BUT,
Have a New Holland dealer about 14 miles from me and he can't or won't order CaseIH parts. Nearest CIH dealer is over 40 miles away.

I think it worked out ok. I just miss the Ford line of tractors. What about the Sperry Rand name that was on older NH equipment?

I'm really surprised that it has been 25 years, but search information confirms that.

I have a Ford compact that is from the last year of production as Fords and not Ford/New Holland or New Holland. Guess it was about 10 years after the merger before the tractor name change came about.

Hard to beleive that happened 25 years ago, seems more like 10 years or so. Looks like they both did ok as a result.

In my area I would say it worked out pretty good. When Case and International merged in the early 80's the IH dealer lost his tractor line. He had been a IH dealer for over 50 years. They started selling Ford tractors as well as NH so they could have a combine. Today they out sell Case/IH and Deere.

Same with me GBM, Arent you glade you got your 1720 before they came out with the NH Boomer? When I saw the Boomer it was like a fire cracker under my arse to buy a 1720!

New Holland did go blue. I saw a line of new ones last week that were Ford blue but had New Holland on them. Ford/New Holland dealer on one side of the road, Case/IH dealer on the other side. Another dealer down the road has been getting new Versatile tractors in. They are a lighter shade of red but look pretty good.

BTW a company called Import Tractor run by Danny Bowes has any part you'd ever need for most all the Fiat built tractors including the 5050.Real nice fellow and prices way less than dealers. He is in Ontario Canada but ships to the US

I think the AC5040 and/or 5050 were also sold under the Oliver name. 1350 was one of them ?

Dad bought a 5040 new and I never did like it !

Can't say as I blame you. There was a considerable difference in 5040 and 5050. And I don't mean the size. The "fit and finish" of the 5050 was much nicer. Although the 5040 didn't give a lot of trouble back when it was nearly new. The biggest issue we had was the junk starter.
