Hey quick question. Wife and I and in-laws are coming to St. Louis area in June to see a Cards game and visit the brewery. We are looking at staying in the Jefferson Ave. area off of 44 at a hotel, is this a safe neighborhood. Thanks for your time.

we stayed at the fairfield and the pear tree in fenton mo, it is on the far west side of st lous past the old chrysler plant. bowels ave is the exit off 44. seemed like a nice area, about 10-15 minutes to downtown st louis.

St. Louis is the #1 most dangerous city in the US as far as murders and violent crime per capita goes. I don't know the place but would suggest keeping your wits about you.

Haven't been there in years but it is one of the worst places to be if in the wrong area at the wrong time. Always best to check with the better Business and other such places before figuring out what you are going to do and be staying

My car broke down last summer on I-70 on the east side of St. louis. While we waited at a gas station (with bars on the windows) several people asked if they could help us because we were in the bad part of town. This included state highway workers, senior citizens and the local police.

I've lived in area my whole life and can tell ya no way.Stay in Collinsville or Fairview.I live on the Illinois side 20 miles to the north at the end of 255.

Collinsville, IL is cool but I'd go a bit farther out on I55 to Troy, IL. Several motels, plenty of food joints, almost in the country. Only about 20 minutes from the river, SAFE area.
No way I'd stay in the city.

I dont know much about the Ill. side of the river now but it used to be a farily rough place. I wouldnt spend the night in downtown St. Louis.Crime is bad day or night. Lot of ganges shooting at each other esp. at night. If you go west on I44 to bowels Ave past 270 and the Meramec River about a mile there is a nice motel and also some nice restaurants at that exit and the next exit west by about a mile (Hwy141) and no crime. There is hotels (2) at 141 also. I think Dury inn is one of the chains.

Stay on I-64 to past I-270, go 6 miles to Chesterfield. There is a very nice Drury Inn there. Free breakfast and supper. No way would I stay in the city. Chesterfield is only 20 miles from stadium. Also has a huge mall and lots of stores 2 mi west in Gumbo bottoms.

Jeesh, why is everyone so down on St. Louis? There are bad parts north of downtown (like north of the Edward Jones Dome) and obviously East St. Louis (which is in Illinois and not part of St. Louis). Downtown is safe, and I would have no problems staying in a hotel downtown. Yes, we have our crime, but that number is skewed, and does not account for the entire metro STL area & Suburbs (just the city proper, which is rather small). Most of those crime statistics are from north of downtown.

The other areas you mentioned are safe (Fenton, Chesterfield, Collinsville, IL). A lot of people stay in Westport area (Page & I-270). I would suggest staying in St. Charles, MO. Nice town along the Missouri River off of I-70. Nice selection of hotels, close to Bass Pro and Cabelas. They have a REAL nice historical downtown area with little shops, brick paved streets, etc. The downtown thing is nice if you have ladies in the group.

BTW, Go Cards!

I have stayed at the Casino queen that is straight across the river from the stadium with a nice view of the arch. A very nice place indeed. I think it was about $89 a night and they have a free shuttle to and from the game. No need to even get out in your car. Take your cash, everything in Busch stadium cost an arm and a leg.

Last summer my wife and I stayed at the 'Drury Plaza Hotel by the Arch' which is about 2 blocks from Busch Stadium and about the same to the Arch. It was a great place to stay and I think the room was about $90. It made going to the game super easy since you could just walk there. I think it is plenty safe right there.

I use to live in IL about 60 miles from STL. If you do end up getting a hotel on the IL side you can do what a lot of my friends from there do, they always park on the IL side of the river at one of the metro 'park and ride' lots and just take the metro to the game. There is a stop right next to the stadium. It is super easy and you don't have to worry about parking or the traffic.

Good luck and GO CARDS!
