PTO Winch gearbox lube

I am finally getting the winch that I bought last spring set up so I can use it. I left the frame at the house of my friendly local welder and am picking it up Friday so I should get it all together by the weekend. The winch will run off the tractor PTO. When I bought it I was told it was from an Army truck, I don't know much more about it. It has a worm gear drive. I am thinking that maybe something like 85-140 oil or maybe cornhead grease would be appropriate but I don't know. I'm hoping that someone who has one like this can tell me what to put in it. I'll post a picture as soon as I get it done. Thanks very much.

looks like the one i used on my tractor,..you have to remember that you have no reverse to let the cable out, i ended up putting a hydraulic motor hooked to my remotes on it,,haven't tried pulling anything yet but seems to have plenty of power, mine's geared at 50 to 1...

If the gear the worm runs against is YELLOW Metal, The POSI additive in GL-5 oil will attack the gear. Use a GL-4 or lower oil.

Thank you all for your advice. I will look for some EP gear oil in town, and if I can't find any I'll use 80-90. I'll post a picture when it's all together.

It came from an old army truck but i dont know which model

I like to know from where the winch came from.
