But not as bad as my phone company repairman!

Have been having intermittant problems with my phone for several weeks, Noisy, dropped calls, not ringing properly, no one there when answered, no dial tone, the works.

Had a repair call in a couple weeks back, but apparently didn't find anything wrong when they finally got on to it, over the weekend...

Went again yesterday. Technician was here about 8:30am today. Told him the symptoms, and I suspected a bad connection in one of the many pedestals between here and the pffice, 4 miles away. Well, he frogged around with it until about 2:30pm..... Found that mice had gotten into one of the pedestals, and gnawed some of the wires. Tried two new pairs of wires before he got a good new pair that conducted a clean signal. I hate to be right all the time! Turns out that he ended up using a pair that was already connected to the house when we had two lines a few years back... He couldn't get at the wires to repair existing pair, as pedestal was below grade, and unaccessable, until thaw.

My new invention... mouse poison in a package like coffee creamer is issued in restaurants. Just put a package or two in each pedestal when they are serviced.

Jeez you're awesome. A phone repair man worked the better part of the day, and got your line back in service, and you hate him more than the mice?
Have you ever worked in a pedestal full of mouse feces and urine? Why didn't you tell him which pedestal the little rodents were living in?
At this point all I can say is , thank you for having a land line phone.

Oh and yes, I am a phone guy

OK
Currently wiping the egg off my face WHILE pulling my foot out of my mouth. Misunderstood that you were saying the Phone Guy hates mice.
Pardon me.

Your apology accepted.... I've worked as a commercial 2way radio technician. Emptied a few mouse nests outta radio installations. Not pleasant.

You're right, I hate them, he hates them worse! (At least right now!)

I don't hate him, I appreciate his efforts, and told him so.

he didn't have anything to do ....everyone around here including me have taken out the land lines...carry [2] cells at all times [work & personal]..land lines are way outdated....Kent

Hate to burst your bubble but many mouse poisions have an "attractant". The problem is that the mice are attracted to the poision, they eat it, chew on your wires and then die later.

I learned this when putting mouse poision in combine cabs. We kept getting mice and lots of dead mice. We started using an herbal mouse repellant and have not had any problems since. It is a little bit smelly but it smells better than the mice.

Have a person in household with a pacemaker/defibrulator. It calls home periodically. Needs a land-line to do that. Have been after my cellular salesperson to find a cellular phone that will allow connection to my network of phones around the farmstead. So far, she hasn't come up with an economical alternative.

I'd tell you a story about telephone techs but then some one would get mad. But lets just say 99% of them are only as smart as the company they work for will let them be. I.E. there test for employment if you score to high or to low they will not hire you but if you score on there test at say this or that high they will hire you. That said yep mice love wires and no matter what you can not do much about them other then hope there is a cat that wants a meal close by

I managed to read it the way it was intended the first time, but after your apology I went back and read it again. It definitely made sense for you to have taken it the way you did at first. Like they say, you gotta love the English language.

Wasn't somebody saying on here just the other day that EPA is outlawing mouse and rat poison except in preloaded bait stations? That the price would be around $20 a pop?

A year ago, when i tried to start my riding mowers, stored out back in an old frame garage, i found the mice had nested under the flywheel covers on both machines. their favorite meal is the insulation on the spark plug wire, and then when that is gone, the small wiring is second best. Then i heard that clothes dryer sheets, placed and stuffed, in strategic places, will make them seek residence in other places.
Worked well this winter. Everything started up right away!
Mice like those places, because they can hide from cats and other varmints that like them for dessert.
Heck, i even kept some junk engines, etc. there for them, but they just liked the runnable ones. They make their toilets in between the cylinder fins. So, try the dryer sheets. They'll make yer machine smell real nice, too!
