OT Gas Mileage

99 Chevy 1/2 Ton 327 ci. Out of curiosity I decided to check my mileage. I drive about 300 miles every 10 days. This past 10 days I averaged 16.7 miles to the gallon. I do not consider that too bad considering half of that is hauling something or another. Auction Kings sold a 1928 Model A Truck last night for 10 grand, they said those got 20 miles to the gallon. Ofocurse top speed was 60 mph and they required a lot more maintanence then today's vehichles. I paid 3.32 for low grade.

That's actually not bad especially if you are hauling. I believe the sticker said 14 city/22 highway (I would have to dig up my original window sticker). I average about 13 with mine but there is 298,000 on it and I'm not afraid to pass slowpokes when necessary - lol!

how much weight do you actually haul?
i got a '06 Toyota Tacoma with the 4 banger and automatic...have had a ton of cattle feed in it more than once...best mileage on hiway is 26 and towing a small trailer with a/c on it drops to rite at 20.
oh,and those 170 ponies under the hood will let me merge plenty fast on the freeway.

We took my GMC 1500 to NE hunting this fall. It has the 323, 4x4,auto,etc. We had a cap on and it was loaded down with hunting gear. Over the 2200 miles round trip, we averaged 18mpg. Pretty good I thought. Here in Western, Pa. 87 octane is at $3.59.

For the first two weeks of March, I was getting slightly more than 17 MPG out of my 2003 Chevy 1500 with 4.8L.

Last week, I removed the 400lbs of concrete slabs that I use for traction in the winter.

The last two fill-ups also averaged slightly more than 17 MPG.

I've heard, seen, and read that reducing weight by 100lbs would increase fuel economy by approximately 1/4 MPG. Well, that didn't work for me...

I think you'd really be lucky to get up to 60 mph in a Model A truck, and if you're carrying any load, heaven help you if you had to stop it in a hurry.
