Please tell me what this device is...

I have a thing that appears to me to be used for either pulling or lifting. It has a knurled grabber that pops out when the clevis end is pulled on. I cannot figure out what it is or what it is used for, and neither can anyone I have asked around here. Any information will be very much appreciated.

I have something similar, and so does the local welding shop. It is used to grip/transport sheet steel with a hoist, loader, etc. Fits any thickness sheet within it"s range.

Pallet puller used to pull a pallet to the rear of a truck to allow reaching it with a forklift on the ground??

Yup, it's a plate clamp. The heavier the plate, the tighter it grips. That's what the grooves in the cam are for.

Yep,that"s a sheet clamp.We used to use them every day when I was building tanks.Pretty exciting for a minute or so when you get a sheet 3/4 way up to the ring you"re working on and the sheet comes out.

Yes, it is for hoisting sheet steel. I use one on a regular basis at work. Saves a lot of hand labor, which as you know is almost non-existant with the younger generations.

We had similar sheet clamps at work and on two different occasions guys were severely hurt when the clamp released and the sheet of steel fell on them. They were using the clamps attached a hoist to insert large sheets of steel 3/8" thick and maybe 8' X 12' into a roller. The sheets had to be raised several feet off the floor, one end inserted into the roller and then lowered towards horizontal as it fed in the roller. I believe that these clamps had locks on them but either they weren't locked or the cable got slack in it and they released the sheet. They can be very dangerous and I believe that they went to a different type of clamp for this operation.

Please tell me what this device is...
