Local Farm Auctions

What is the best way to find out about local farm auctions. I keep an eye out on the web, but im away at college so i dont get a local paper. Any "mass" site where these are posted? Keith in PA

Most, if not all, auctioneers have websites, some with auto send to customers. Many are in a common group- get that site bookmarked, and you can access any info.

A LOT of auctioneers will be glad to put you on their mailing list.If you can't go to a sale but see one listed call or write ,asking to be put on list for other sales.

If you are looking for a specific location and are serious about following farm auctions then spring for the money and take the local paper. For here I'd take the local metro Sunday paper and the county weekly paper. Cost for both for a year is under 200 bucks and one gets to do actual reading.

Auction zip is really good but not every company participates. Some of the best auctions out there are on it, and some arent.

Auctioneers are notorious for keeping their auctions a secret. After all, they don't want to attract the largest number of people possible so they get the highest bids possible...

Seriously, if you want to find out about local auctions, just pick up some local publications. Auctioneers send out an advertising blitz 1-2 weeks before every auction. They hit every newspaper, penny saver, local magazines, etc..

If you don't know about an auction that's happening nearby, you would have to be living under a rock.

In the Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa area there's the Midwest Messenger (midwestmessemger.com). I'm sure there are similar publications most everywhere else.

Or simply surf the 'Net for "farm auctions".

The best thing to do is keep your eye on the local papers. Keep a record of who is doing the different auctions (even if they are not farm auctions) and their websites. Most, though not all, auctioneers have websites now where they'll advertise upcoming auctions. I've got several auction companies saved in favorites. Every so often I browse through and see who is doing what and where.

What I would love to be able to do is get them to schedule the good auctions for times when I have both money and time! LOL.

lancaster farming will get you notices of tons of auctions in pa and central/ southern tier of ny. in ny, country folks does the same for ny and northern pa.

In my area, there are three auction companies who handle all the farm, consignment, and estate auctions. They all have websites that list upcoming auctions and have PDF files of the sale bills and one even has a big photo collection for consignment sales. Find out who the auction companies in the area are and look them up.

Look up Farm and Dairy on the net.The paper is out of Salem,OH and covers OH,PA and WV.Most all the sales are listed on there. There's quite a few around this weekend and next weekend.

Here in the northeast, there's a weekly agricultural newspaper called Country Folks. It has a whole auction section, and most of the auctions are in NY and PA, so you're in luck. Most of us around here subscribe to it (actually I don't know a farmer around here in upstate NY who doesn't subscribe to it) but TSC also carries it in their magazine section.
