just got thru watching amer-pickrs, i know a lot don't like mike or frank, that's not the debate this time. my question is, they were at a place in Alabama where they went to a "possum trot" auction, [is this for real], or is it just another t-v make up segment for the show.

Just a little bit off the subject. I just turned to pickers and my neighbor was on there. They bought a saddle, a motorcycle and a sword that he had picked up in Hiroshima shortly after the mushroom cloud. He used to have yard sales on Memorial and Labor day weekends. He quit that a few years back. He has Leukemia, I wonder if that was a result of his service during the war. A good old guy. Leland Bentley

what war didn't have chemicals in them, thatcaused soldiers to have problems. mustard gas, agent orange, i'm sure others can name more than i could. sorry about anyone who fought for their country, has to experience it.

Here in western,pa. that show has driven the prices of signs up at local auctions. It is a fad. The people here are paying way more than what the signs are worth and quickly find out there is no network available to get rid of them in at a profit. Heck it is just like tractors, a lot of guys bought high priced tractors and try to sell them at a profit and often barely break even. With the economy like it is and the fact that the young guys today aren't tied to a farm mindset, the used tractor market ship has set sail and won't be returning in my life time..

Don't know, but I would imagine it's real. I was just disapointed that it wasn't Possum Trot Tennessee. Been there several times. When I saw "Possum Trot" on the program description on the Direct TV guide,I figured that was where they were going, but no such luck.
If you're ever in the neighborhood of that one, stop in. It's on US 127 between Pall Mall and the Tennessee/Kentucky state line.

Those two guys reminded me of the fellow who came to Dad's place and almost stole a couple tractors, and a horse drawn trailer. Dad was in his first stages of alzheimers, and his mind wsn't not very clear. They person bought the stuff, but not anyway what it was worth.I was in Hiroshima in 65, Hope everything was cleaned up by then. Stan

You've gotta remember though, all the things that go in to pre production before the cameras ever roll. When those folks come to the door, they're already wired for sound and all.
I've seen HGTV filming live at the 127 Yard Sale. What ends up on TV looks spontaineous, but you wouldn't believe how much goes in to getting everybody in the right place, all the different shots that don't make it on the air, etc. These folks that end up on the air on Pickers have probably been through at least an hour of prepping before any cameras ever roll.

They stopped by a place in Michigan. According to the paper then spent two full days there going through stuff, only about 10 minutes of it made the show. As others have said, what you see on the show is only the edited/entertaining portion of their visit. I sure they buy/find lots of stuff that we never see. They also seems to always pay in cash, no mater what they buy. If more people were willing to do that, it would be easier to buy stuff.

He must be doing something for himself. At the end of the show last night he needed glasses!

he would probably go there and bit@# about the food and service. then again maybe they might take him on a hunt to bit@# at the prices.
