I would first check out the linkage and make sure the clevis and pins are not worn. if they are, replace the clevises and pins. the adjust the linkages.

my neighbors 4020 just did that. you shift into reverse and as soon as you let the clutch out, it pops out of reverse. it was the top synchro shaft. gonna need a split to fix it. deck needs to come off, also the 3 point top. while in his, found the differential outer bearing were out too. it puts a hurt on the pocket book. you can get rebuilt top shafts.
