Prices of equipment and tractors.

I am amazed at the prices people are asking for equipment and tractors. And they never sell, but they just keep advertising at the same old high prices. It never seems to occur to them to lower their prices. I guess people just pay to much to begin with and want somebody to bail them out of their mistakes.I have seen people advertise for up to 6 moths and when you call them they jump at 1/3 of what they are asking. Oh well-I am not complaining, I just wish I had more free money to buy with,

Yes it seems that Backhoes and tractors are awfully expensive. 15000 starting for a twenty year old small industrial seems very high!

Two farms on either side of me just sold. One for $9500 per acre, and one for $10,100. It makes the $5000 per acre I paid for mine not look too bad. I think prices are just high on everything.

I think sometimes one of two things happen.

Either the guy's wife tells him he has too many tractors, so he puts a few on the market at prices he knows no one will pay. Or if someone does, he's way ahead.

Or someone puts too much money into a tractor and tries to get it back when he sells it. I've seen guys put $5,000 into a $2,000 pickup, and try to sell it for $7,000.

It's tough to buy from the photo adds, people will back out when you get to there house and say the tractor is sold then relist it at a higher price. One guy told me the listed price was a misprint and wanted 500 more.

The demand for some types is pretty high. I was looking for a small 4x4 tractor. A 10 year old Kubota or JD with 1000 hours are bringing 15K. For another 3K, I bought new, with a warranty.

same here.. newish used subcuts and cuts go for 90% of new price.

on the other hand.. used antiques in my neck of the woods have prices falling like rocks.. wish I had more money.. :) deals to be had out there..

A lot of people simply have no clue what their item is worth...

If they're eventually settling for 1/3 their original asking price, that's progress. The worst is when someone has a ridiculous price on something and refuses to budge an inch on their price. Ever.

With $7 corn and $14 beans, everything Ag related is going to go UP (again)... Everyone wants a piece of that pie.
