Discing time

I do a lot of discing, but most fields are all kinds of different sizes shapes and slopes. I really can't figure the time to disc one acre, as I spend a lot of time getting into corners, and turning in these odd shaped fields. I now need to figure the time to disc a 10 acre field. The field has straing sides, and flat, with no odd shapes. I know each tractor is different. In your opinion how long will it take the average tractor to disc a 10 ac fild with a 7 ft disc? The disc is wider, but with overlap,it is around 7 ft. cut. I can pull the disc in third gear. Thanks Stan

An old rule of thumb is width X mph divided by 10 = acres/hr.

example is 4 mph X 7 ft=28 divided by 10=2.8 acres/hr

This takes in water breaks/stops and having to turn around

I used my 2N with a 6ft four gang Dearborn disc, to disc 12 acreas of corn stubble. Took 1 full day to make one complete pass. Crown shape and reqired 1st gear for the better half of the field.

Use Tx Jim's formula; it's an old farmer's trick; have used it for better than 50 years for field work, combining, cutting hay, etc.

I use the same formula as TxJim. It works well in my irregular shaped fields. If you have a nice rectangular field with few short rounds to finish it out, you can beat the formula.

Glad to hear of Tx Jim's formula. Where have I been for the last 60 years. Must of had my head in the sand.
