OT: 'puter virus?

wife took "puter in to repairman to speed it up
& get some minor glitches out & he says it had a "rogue" virus for a long time that Free AVG couldn"t detect. Sounds like a load for the manure spreader to me. Never heard the term before. Ideas?

just got my daughters computer out of the shop, got a virus that kept trying saying click here because you have a virus. downloaded a couple different softwares but could not get it out, but it did find trogan horse and malware and spybots that avg did not catch. so maybe there was something in there.

There's a LOT of stuff the mainstream virus scanners do not catch.... Honestly... probably most of the real bad ones go undetected.

Just because you see no symptoms of a virus doesn't mean you're not infected. Many young men living in San Francisco made the same assumption 30 years ago. They're all dead today.

avg has become a resource hog,it will slow down your computer, but it should still work. I switched mine to Microsoft Security Essentials. Its free with free updates and it works good. also download malwarebytes, update and run, it is also free and good. you might have to run it is safe mode, just reboot and hit f8 until it comes up in safe mode, use safe mode with networking to update malwarebytes and then run it in safe mode. good luck

Supposedly the virus corrupted some registry files. The minor glitches are gone for now. I suppose now it will find new ways to irratate me. Spell check is gone now & all images are very tall & very skinny & print is much reduced. Must need to be proportioned some way.

Here's what I posted the other day, you might try it. I wouldn't use any registry fix that hadn't been tested and recommended by users. I knew a computer guru who knew somebodies problems were registry errors and he would give them a link to what ever registry fixer poped up on a search, screwed up a lot of computers.
try these

More likely your so-called "repairman" trashed the registry, if indeed that's what happened. If there was a virus lurking in the background, why did it suddenly expose itself just when Sparky worked on your PC?
