OLD GAS PUMPS

Anyone on this site work on old gas pumps? I'm not looking to get one of those $3000 rigs, but just need a 60-70s model that I can use to pump (and meter) diesel from a couple 300 gal tanks. A local fellow has a Wayne pump (not the old 40s-50s style) for sale, but it has no pump and motor. The pump he has is similar to the ones in the photo above.

Yes I know about the Fill-Rite type, but would like my tractor shed area to resemble an old mechanic's garage and gas station. Just can't afford the really old pumps...Trying to determine if a pump and motor are available for this style gas pump and what it would cost....thanks....

I would ask my fuel jobber. I delivered fuel a while back for a few years and we had a barn full of those pumps. most newer (pumps) are just dispensers. They are pushed fuel from a under-ground submersible pump. If you can't find a real pump. You might put a farm pump like a (Gasboy) without a meter at the tank and push fuel to a newer dispenser type where you can see it. just run the switch to your dispenser. Just a thought Vic

I agree--by our antique tractor standards, it's not really that old. The pump I'm looking at has a mechanical metering system (driven off the motor/pump by a shaft) and no credit card reader of course. Problem is it has no pump & motor so I can't use it as is. Also, I don't want to pay $300-400 for display-only purposes and since it's not like the old pump classics from the 50's and earlier....

Not sure of what you are asking but the pumps (used) for those older cases are still available. Try to find a gas station repair company and they should have some rebuilt and / not rebuilt ones. They are belt driven bu 3/4 hp motors if I remember right . Where are you located? I worked on those and newer dispensers back ion the 70's and early 80's Ohenry

Check with oil jobbers who have been there for years. They usually have a barn full of pumps and parts.I don't know where you are, but I know of three or four in our area.

There should be lots of complete older pumps kicking around. They won't go over a $1 a gallon. Check with pump repair or gas station suppliers. They take the old pumps out and replace them with new ones. Also those "older" pumps aren't designed for self serve. With that in mind, it shouldn't be hard to locate one in good operating condition. It's next to impossible to find a full service gas station these days.

Good luck finding anything semi modern. I was at an area scrap yard last summer and there was over a hundred of them in a big pile being crushed to go in a hopper. Of course all the real old ones are snapped up by collectors.
Scrap is up and being a packrat has gone out of style!

Lots of service stations have closed because it is too expensive to dig up the old steel tanks/contaminated soil to replace them with fiberglass or above ground double wall fuel vaults. You'd think there should be lots of pumps available that were made in the 70's and even 80's.
