Found some more old John Deere Implements to add to my collection. The friend of mine who does a lot of scrapping spread the word about me buying old Tractors and Implements and he told a friend of his to save the old John Deere stuff he comes across. He called and told me about a John Deere Model 40 Four-Row Front-Mount Cultivator, A John Deere ABG 200 Two-Row Front-Mount Cultivator and a John Deere 227 Corn picker and also a John Deere #5 Mower.

The John Deere 227 Corn Picker has been shedded all its life and was used up until the 1970"s. The Four Row Cultivator was used last in 2000. The two row cultivator and the #5 mower have been sitting for awhile. The price is .15 Cents a pound for the Cultivators and the mower and .20 Cents a pound for the picker.

What does the John Deere 227 Corn picker Weigh?

The Corn picker is the coolest thing there. It is complete and in really good shape. All the original paint and decals are there.

I think that these will be great additions to my collection. I have never owned a corn picker before and it would look great mounted on the front of one of my tractors

Thanks for reading!

just a little warning. That picker is heavy - don't know exactly what it weighs, but it's the kind of implement you want to mount once and plan to leave it on the tractor. There is also a rear-mount sheller unit that works with that picker. The sheller unit would be another nice find.

Actually the pickers are not that bad to mount if you have a flat level conbrete floor to set it on. I did not have that but still mounted and removed every year on a late A. The biggest job is chainging the wheel tread. They lift themselves up on the tractor, use no jacks.

I didn't buy the trailer but I think a military collector did as it was an old military trailer. Not sure where it went though. That trailer was way to heavy for me. And by not buying the trailer I can afford these implements. So everything worked out in the end.

Also, that makes it worth about $420, which sounds about right if its in good working order. That is a later 227, the earlier ones had different decals. Before I bought it, i'd want to be damn sure it had ALL the mounting brackets, gears and pulleys for the pto, drawbar extension, and ask what tractor it was previously mounted on. That radiator gaurd is somewhat universal for tractors in the same size range (60,620,630) but not between sizes (50 to 60 to 70, etc). I do agree that it will look tons better washed. Grab ahold of the powershafts to see if the gearboxes are stuck. It could be new enough to have used the universal mounting, which means it would be easier to mount on different Deere tractors, but it wouldnt have to have the universal mounts. I had one that looked just like yours that fell into the 2 year window that didn't yet use universal mountings. Most all parts are NLA, so you might want to look for a parts machine if you buy it. Pickers are like plows, they became obsolete almost overnite.

A picker like that on an original tractor would really be a show-stopper! Not many built after the 60's, although I used a pull type until 2004. Lots cheaper than drying and I got paid a premium for the cobs. No more, nobody wants to mess around shelling.
