Cat 416 backhoe series II

Anyone own a cat 416 backhoe? Have a chance to purchase one and was wondering if anyone here knows of any common problem or flaw with them. Any help is greatly appreciated

There is a forum dedicated to that type equipment, On the home page, up on the right side near the top there is a box that says"select a forum". Open that box and Scroll down till you see it. Good luck , mEl

i work for a municipality we have 2 of them very few problems. last one was a new holland low tender???? what a jem it is always broke. never again. gerald

I don't have one and I've never worked on one... but I see several around the area... and one thing I notice about many of them is brake noise. Those machines used Ford drivetrains (axles) with wet brakes... and Cat has had this nasty habit of recomending one oil throughout the machine... and then ADD an additive to suppress the wet brake noise. That part is fine..... IF you use the additive. I would venture to guess that a lot of guys don't because you always hear some of these machines growling to a stop. At around 5000 hours... they don't stop anymore.
So watch that.... You should be using a TDH/Universal tractor oil in the hydraulics systems on those machines.
Machine would need to be cheap if the brakes are growling. That makes an awful mess inside that's not easy to clean.
Otherwise I think they're pretty good hoes.
