I have a massey ferguson model 40 industrial that the three point only works when tractor is moving it works fine but will not work while setting still it has shuttle shift and as soon as you engage to go forwared or reverse,it works fine.Any info would be nice.Thanks Don
 
There is nothing wrong with your tractor.

In the olden days, the hydraulic system was driven off the transmission. For it to work you need to have your foot off the clutch pedal.

If you want it to work when the tractor is not moving, put the gearshift in neutral and take your foot off the clutch pedal.
 
When you say shuttle shift, do you mean the manual shuttle trans. or the instant reverse trans. using foot pedals? If the manual shuttle, the 3 pt. won't work if you have the clutch depressed, the same as any other tractor. You may have a 2 stage clutch and it will work with the clutch half way down. The other possibility is that if the manual shuttle is in the neutral position the 3 pt. pump drive shaft isn't turning. Try putting the shuttle in either forward and reverse and see if it lifts with the clutch half way down. If it doesn't, put the trans. in neutral and see if it lifts without touching the clutch. The instant reverse may have to moving for the 3 pt. to lift but I'm not sure. Never used an instant reverse but have used a manual shuttle in an MF30.
