Tractors at Wisconsin rally .

So in answer to the other days question about tractors coming by the thousands to protest at the Wisconsin capital. The official tally was 53 tractors and 2 manure spreaders. A very far cry from the 2020 predicted by the radicals who where spreading their lies, I find a certain degree of satisfaction in my prediction of 20, I was much closer!!! :>)

I'm surprised there were that many.
I heard $7 million in damages (and littering?) to the capital. How much $$ are the protesters (who caused it!) going to pony up to clean up?

Were they a bunch of Willy Nelson look alikes driving John Deere stem wind A's and Farmall H's?

It isn't their problem now is it. Somebody else will pay for it. Just goes to show how disconnected some people are.

down here on il wis state line we have heard lots of the protesters were bussed in by the union big wigs. so why would they care what it costs wis to clean up the mess.
we have also heard the jerks have gone as far to spray paint their bs slogans on the walls of the capitol building.
that is terrible as it is a beautiful building.

There were two bus loads that loaded up here in Michigan a day or two ago to go over and "show their support".

730 Virgil, thank you for the tractor numbers at Madison the other day.But never heard which side the tractor protestors were on . Can you let us know? Thanks, clint

The estimates were shall we say grossly exaggerated. Shortly after releasing that $7 million dollar figure, the DOA knocked the estimate back to about $350,000. See link: http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/117409458.html. The Journal Sentinel btw is a conservative paper from Milwaukee.

To answer the other question, the tractors were on the anti-Walker side. His budget makes drastic cuts to BadgerCare which is a state run health insurance. Many of the farmers would no longer qualify and are stating that they may need to forego insurance at all as they can not afford non-state coverage.

From the story:

In court Thursday, officials with the Walker administration said that damage from the demonstrations to the marble would cost $6 million for damage inside the Capitol, $1 million for damage outside and $500,000 for additional expenses. State officials made the claim as they were arguing their case for restricting public access to the statehouse.

-------------------------------------------------

When you have to start replacing or refacing marble the costs are huge. Kind of like hitting a deer with your car. You can wire the hood shut and keep driving it for the cost of a strand of baling wire, but to fix it correctly can cost thousands. Which is the accurate cost of the repair?

And then on Friday they backed away from that figure. As it turns out the $6 million dollar pricetag would have replaced large sections of marble in the entire rotunda. Similar to what was done in a complete restoration in 2001. In case anyone really cares. The signs have all been removed. They had been put in place by the protestors with blue painting tape (which was a conscious effort). The tape has all peeled off with no visible damage to inspectors.

It looks like the damage which does actually exist (and is the basis for the current $300,000 estimates are the wear to the floor from the increased traffic and landscaping from the crowds on the grass areas outside.
