Gas 4000 local adv need idea

Local adv has adv for jd 4000 with loader. No info on type of front year or condition rather than runs. no info yet on transmission . I know some 4000 can be worth a lot, however what I need to know before driving to see is how much more is a 4000 worth than a 4020 other conditions being equal?? is not a power shift transmission more desirable?? what about it being a Gas, is that worth more or less. I would not keep it, just wanting to make a buck and have not dealt in any 4000's

well not a john deere expert but a 4000 with power shift is likly the best one to have and the gas model has only 9 made from what I found out and 403 diesel. From watching for tractors of interest a late 4020 side console are priced right up there

4000 was a no frill 4020 so I would put less value on one over a 4020.

hey old friend !! don't know what transmission yet, it's a ways off but is on way to son in Ill, so will check it out. It has a loader so possibly??? Problen is he is asking a bunch or best offer. I did buy an F20 on e bay last week so a green one would make for mice decoration at christmas!!

I never saw a 4000 powershift, I thought they were all syncro.

Not a JD person but if I remember right the 4000 was like the Custom International, no frills at all. All made alike and nothing could be added or changed. Take it or leave it. Poor mans tractor.

A JD 4000 was a 4020 motor on a 3020 rearend made a little heavier. It was marketed to use your 3020 implements and just go one gear faster. Guys bought them for a cheap 4020 and then tried to use them like a 4020 and tore them all to heck. They where built to compete with the IH 726.
There where 7,987 (total)
7,294 (diesel Synchro-Range)
428 (diesel Power Shift)
256 (gas Synchro-Range)
9 (gas Power Shift)

The 4000 was a high horsepower-to-weight tractor, designed as a "runner". Using the same engine as the 4020, but being almost 1000 lbs lighter, the 4000 could, in the same amount of time, pull a 4-bottom plow fast enough to cover the same acreage as a 4020 with a 5-bottom plow. The John Deere 4000 was also an economy tractor, providing the same power as the 4020 with fewer features and smaller rear axles ( quote from tractor data)

Show us the 3020, 4000 and 4020 part numbers. This 3020 story has been disproved too many times to count.
It's a 4020 trans without reverse syncros and a modified 4010 planetary finals.

Near as I remember they were made from 1968 through 1972 you could get gasoline or diesel,row crop or adjustable front end, 8 speed forward synchro range and 2 speed reverse collar shift only options were deduct for three point hitch or add power diff lock. Don"t hold me to that, my memory isn"t all that good anymore.
