I have not seen it yet so I don't know condition yet. what are some things to look out for also as I don't know th3e first thing about them?

It depends where you are at. I paid $180 for a 494A about 6 miles from home and no plates with it. Right here in good ole Northwest Iowa

I've been pursuing one here in Michigan. Asking price is $100.00

I hear it's "all there" and overall pretty good shape, but I guess the tongue is bent. Don't know what comes with as far as plates. I have yet to see it, but most likely gonna snag it up.. I think I found a couple acres to farm again, so I need to be able to plant.

Only downside to this one is that it's wide rows, BUT in my case, I am looking for a wide row unit so I can run my corn picker to pick corn. I'll probably switch it to narrow, or look for a narrow row unit if I pick up any more ground, but for right around 10 acres, it'll suit me good.

In years past, I've seen these planters go anywhere from 20 bucks up.. With scrap being so high, I'd expect just about any of em would bring $100 for junk.
