Building a bale accumulator

Well, if I can get some free time, I gonna go ahead try to build my own accumulator. Probably an 8 bale, the type that'll mount to my front end loader. someting real similar to whats in the link. Question, what do you guys think is the best material to use? I've been leaning towards metal tubing, but I've heard of some being made out of pipe. What do you think would be the smallest size of either that I could get away with using and it still be durable? I've been looking at maybe 2x2x3/16 or 1.5x3x3/16. I figure 1/8th wall would be to thin, but I don't have a lot of metal working experience. Any suggestions would be great.

Why don't you see about a stacker and accumilator, like I have seen in the western states. I seen them in Wyoming, I believe it was...JB

do you want the bales dragging on the ground that much??? Depending on soil you could get some loss/damage as well as pick up dirt.

If you bale much, an old Farmhand 8 bale accumulator and front loader grapple is the ticket. No dragging bales on the ground and everything is operated by hydraulics. Might have a hard time finding them in your area though.

you watch the videos of all this stuff working on youtube. I was gonna build one of Long's Grapalators but just havent got around to it it. I think 1/8 in stuff would be fine. Id probably go with 1/4 for the main frame that attaches to the loader and 1/4 for the bottom because it way wear.

The videos of that stuff is slick. I like the looks of the grapalator, but according to a rep from Long, the only drawback to the all in one is that it's next to impossible to unload with it. I figured I'd use 1/4 on what attaches to loader, just wasn't real for sure on the rest of it. I'm thinkin' maybe 1.5x3 rectangle tube, I guess in the 1/8....here's another system thats similar.
