Fordson dextas

How hard is it to get parts ? How good are they to use around the farm? Fuel per hour? What is a 1960 worth in poor to fair condition? Thanks!!!

My uncle bought one new in 1960. A second cousin still has it. Super nice little tractor. Perkins engine I believe,so parts should be easy to find for that. As far as the rest of the tractor,I'd think any New Holland dealer should be able to fix you right up. I sure wish I could find one in nice shape. I've always wanted one. As far as how good are they around the farm, handy as a Swiss Army knife. Super economical on fuel. Value? Don't know. If I ever was to find one for sale, the owner would probebly want a fortune for it.

Neighbor had one. Very efficient. Equivalent of a NAA or 600 Ford (31 h.p.) Not as easy to get parts for as a hundred series Ford, but parts ARE available, just not always through New Holland. Lots of good info on these on the Fordson forum.
p.s. - it is NOT a Perkins engine... it's a Ford designed engine that Perkins was contracted to help build. I think they did the castings.

I bought this Super Dexta last spring. 1964 if I remember right. There haven't been any parts I've needed yet and been unable to find. Did a clutch(was a loader tractor once) and head gasket and a lot of little stuff. The only thing I've really done with mine is run a 5' Bush hog, but it handles it well. Mine does have live PTO, although I believe not all do.

The engine is basically a Perkins. My understanding is that Ford made the castings and sent them to Perkins. Perkins machined and assembled them. I could be wrong though, it happens at least once a day.

Paid $900 for this one. I didn't know much about them, but I figured the rear tires were worth more than half the purchase price and I couldn't buy a running 9,2,8n for that. It did run and drive.

Jeff is sort of right, the Dexta engine is based on the Perkins P3.144 The F3.144 was a major development of that engine, built to Ford specifications, with blocks and heads cast by Ford at Dagenham ,that were finished and assembled by Perkins in Peterborough. The F3.152 as used in the Super Dexta is a development of the F3.144.To call the Dexta engine a Perkins engine, underestimates the work and development that Ford put into it.IMHO, Ford cast the block and heads, so its a Ford engine.
