since everybody from everywhere is on here i got a question, i have to move one of the goal posts for a horseshoe game at a local park, [ private park in a subdivision] i can find all kind of info online except for 1 thing, what is the distance between the posts? some bleepity bleep kid hit the post with his car while drunk, the post is a old axleshaft set in a 5 gallon bucket in concrete, he layed it over and pulled it up when he hit it, would like to put it at the right distance, if there is a correct one

Measure from the stake. In official horseshoe rules the distance is 27 feet for children, 37 feet for women and 40 feet for men. Find these distances with your tape measure

Dave

When I bought my set 30 some years ago it had an official rule book in the box. Ya might sneek a peek in a store.

thanks dave , i looked in the store here dick but all they had were velvet elvis dolls, and wallmart blouses with a ronco bedazled shiney thing on them on sale for 129,95, town is a tourist town and for a working man its usless, cant buy nothing usefull, next town is 70 miles away,

Eric, In case the goal(pin, stake) needs a replacement, I trotted dowmshairs and measured the pins for my Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Set. Those pins measure 7/8" X 24".. Is there an "offical" height that these pins are supposed to stand above the ground?

Brings back memories of the 50s-60s of family reunions.. Laughter and the clang of horse shoes...

Playing Area
•The area of play is designated as being 48 feet from back board to back board, and 40 feet from metal stake to metal stake. The stakes should be between fourteen and fifteen inches in height above ground level. The pit surrounding the stakes is to be no larger than three by four feet and should be filled with sand. A pitching area in front of the pit should extend no more than twenty inches and be the width of the pit itself.

Hey horseshoes isent just for old people, lol I play it all summer with friends, and Yes as others have said 40' from post to post.

Hmph. I thought you said old folk's? What regulation's? Bout the only regulation I remember is the first one to the barn got their choice of any horseshoe or muleshoe hanging on the wall. Ain't never seen a horse that could wear those store bought shoes.

The proper distance is 25 paces. Kids paces - not grown up's.
