Coming home from church last Sunday there was a power washer setting out with the trash. Picked it up and brought it home - it is so nice I had to go back and make sure the guy was really throwing it out. He yes - take it. I said it looks barnd new - he said it is but the pump doesn't work. Troy Built, 8.75 B&S engine. Drained the water out of the fuel bowl and it started right up. Pulled the hose and muddy water came out. I am going to open up the pump - expect dirt is probably the problem. What some people throw away!

Two years ago my neighbor up the street gave me one. Not a Troy-built, but an engine driven washer just the same. Said he couldn't make it run. Didn't take much tinkering to make it purr like a kitten.

Just another fine example to never be shy about checking out other people's garbage. A lot of nice items are thrown out. Cheers, Portgeorge

If he let that pump freeze, it's cracked and you'll need to replace it. Real pricey.

If the pump is trash the Engine Is worth the "Price" have Picked up serveral good engines that way. The one on my log spliter 6.5 HP Brigs is off a power washer. that some didn't winterize. was given to me. the one on my 5 HP air Compressor is off a Power washer alsofor free I realy like those people that don't winterize their equptment.

Good find. I got this old throw away Ariens snowblower for free too. The dealer I worked for couldent work on stuff this old because it dosent have todays safty things on it. So the dealer takes them in on trade, then scraps ones like this. It was going to the scrap yard one day, and the guy who works on them told me this one ran, it just needed a bearing in the blower housing. Well I loaded it up, got the bearing for it fixed it and her it is. Also found the chains for it ready for scrap.

Friend of mine was cleaning up around an old house he bought- asked me to take a load to the dump. There was a lawn edger with a little Briggs engine, with lots of spider webs- obviously hadn't run in years. I left it on the truck after the dump run, took it home, sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb and tank, sloshed a little gas in the tank, and it started on the first pull.

Don't really need a lawn edger, but the Briggs may be the answer I was looking for for a hay barn that has no power but needs a hay elevator.

We have one exactly like that. It"s not even 2 years old and it broke last summer! I"m hopin htat lowes will give me a new one on some kind of warranty

Hello Korfused,
NICE! Before you take the pump off, Check to see if the relieve pressure valve is stuck open.
You may find a broken spring, which will do the same thing, low or no pressure at all.
Also make sure the check valves for the pressure side are free of rust. Changes are some dirt got into this part of the pump. Replacing the check balls maybe all you need to do.
A little TLC, and you'll probably have a nice washer
Good Luck.................Guido.
