Having a 12 volt battery with out the correct ballast resisters in line or being 6 volts and having the ballast resister removed from the system. That said it help us help you if you fill in the blanks like is it 6 or 12 volts etc.

Don't forget to suggest he may have left the ignition switch "ON" with the engine stopped!

That can do in those coils even WITH the correct resistance in place.

If the engine has stopped at a point where the breaker points are closed, the coil will COOK 'til the battery is dead!

Its still a 6 volt system but Im using a 12 volt battery. I just had it rewired and I didnt see a ballast resister in line to the coil. Thanks for the good advise.

Factory there was a ballast resister on the dash back side but with a 12 volt battery you need another ballast resister or the coil will in fact melt down and fast
