O/T Solved the loose shoe lace problem

A while back someone had problems with his shoe laces comming untied. My shoes suffered the same problem. Seams like I had to tie the laces at least 5 times a day for each shoe. Every now and then getting off of my tractor a loose lace would get caught on something. It got to be a real pain in the you know where. Solution:I sprayed the laces with belt dressing. I guess the stick dressing will also work. Two days now with no loose laces. Stan

It took me years to realize I was tying my shoelaces in a granny knot. If the loops of your bow knot are going up and down instead of left and right, you're not tying it right.

It"s those dratted rpund shoe laces - just won"t stay tied. Can"t find any flat pnes in the stores either, only round ones. Loose laces could be a safety hazard around machinery. Not to mention annoying.

+1

Left over right, right over left.
You might catch the loop, pulling end out,
but the knot will still be there.

HTH...don t. ....

if your laces are across the shoe it's a square knot(correct) if up and down the tongue it's a granny knot ( wrong )

Most of my shoes have a velcro strap to secure the shoes to your feet. Still have a few dress shoes with strings. No problem with them keeping them tied. Hal

I just tie the bows in an extra knot. Been doing it most of my life so i don't even think about it. Velcro? Those shoes look stupid.

Why are the laces in most tennis shoes twice as long as they need to be? I double and triple knot mine and there are still huge loops which just love to get caught on stuff!
With all those extra knots, they do stay tied though! :D

Solved that problem years ago by wearing either cowboy boots or engineer boots. A whole bunch easier to slip off when I come in the house too.

Darn, I have been tying my bows in granny knots. On my work boots I usually tie another knot after the first bow to keep the loops from catching when riding a bike or driving a tractor.
I replace those extra long shoe laces that come with new shoes with ones about three sizes smaller than original.

Tie them in a loggers knot. Lace them up normally but on the last eyelet double the tip back and shove it back through the eyelet it came from, forming a loop. Pull the tip of the opposite side through this loop, repeat on the other side then yank 'em tight. Your laces will stay tight and you won't have any loops to catch on anything. You can also bob the end of very long laces and leave it wild but it makes it more complicated to restring if you happen to pull your loop through.

My solution:: Determine how long a shoestring you really need--then cut out the MIDDLE of the shoestring, and tie the ends with a square knot. Now you've got the right length, and the knot will keep the lace from drifting either direction.

Cienna,
I like your idea of cutting in the middle of the shoe string to shorten them up. A guy could cut them just a tad long and then when the string starts to wear in the eyelets you could cut a little more off and have a new wear area. My laces seem to wear out quite fast in a work boot.
That might save me 50 cents a month.)

How pathetic,
a bunch of old farts talking about how to keep shoe laces tied.LOL
Got nothing else to do!??

Get your mommy to show it to ye how to tie laces.

Took me 50 years to learn how to tie correctly. Now when I am tying my boots I just wrap the loose end twice before pulling it tight and every sinse my boots have not come untied.

I guess i was never properly educated in tying (however, it was the hardest thing I recall doing as a youngster.. seems like it took years to figure out).. I just double knot em.. makes it a little tougher to untie, but when I do, my 300+ pound body can dangle from the loop and not come untied (ask me how I know!!)

And since no one really knows me, aside from what I type.. I wear work boots everywhere but bed.. Can't wear tennis shoes.. make my feet feel weird. Only time I wear something beside them is when out in the snow.

The most common cause of shoelace knots coming undone is that they are being tied incorrectly as a Granny Knot. As mentioned above, the tell-tale sign is that the bow sits along the shoe instead of across. To fix it, tie your first knot the opposite way. In other words, if you normally tie "left-over-right", tie it "right-over-left", then complete your knot as normal. If you want even more security, there's plenty of secure knots on Ian's Shoelace Site.
