What would be a good new tractor?

Everone to their own opion but with the termoil that Ford NH or Massey either one is in cannot think about buying a new one. Neither company may be around in the years ahead. Fiat is about tired of Ford NH they are in deby up to you know what and Agco could bail on Massey any time.
I would have to stay with a strong reliable company that is not owned by another parent company.. KUBOTA or John Deer. Like the other person said gota be a reason KUBOTA is selling like hot cakes.

All kinds of Ops here... But i have a Mahindra E-350 DI 35HP, and It's alot of tractor for the Money, used to be marketed under the (or used to be) INTERNATIONAL.. I'd buy another one if i needed it! larry KF4LKU

What else do you call em?Ford/New Holland-Case International. The same company owns them both.CNH(CaseNewHolland)

Don't know.... The Challenger's are nice looking tractors as are the Massey's in that class. I'm probably more impressed with them than the NH's in that range though they all have their points.
In the end I'd probably go with NH simply because I have strong support from my dealer. Never had that comfort level with the Massey dealers.
Deere is also good to deal with here but I doubt I could bring myself to do that...
If I knew for certain that I was the only one to ever operate the thing I'd also take a very hard look at Fendt... but I think their features would largely be lost on a lot of 'help'.

30 years ago who could have predicted that the Italians would be so dominant in today's agricultural manufacturing. In North America back then, we had SAME and Fiat (Hesston) tractors which were widely considered as "junk". Now SAME makes Deutz (and many Agco) tractors, and Fiat makes Ford/New Holland, and CaseIH. Not to mention, Fiat also owns Chrysler and is about to buy GM's Europe automotive divisions. It's a rags-to-riches story there for the Italians. I'm still not sure how they did it :)

The brand that is represented by a solid dealer who has a reputation for good service. The best tractor in the world isn't worth a nickel if it is down and the dealer doesn't have the ability to get it back in the field quickly.
Also why would you ask this question? The question is common for compacts and under 50HP tractors, because people not familiar with tractors buy those, but not 140HP tractors. Most people who are capable of buying a tractor that size, know what they want and already know what to look for to meet their needs.

Today,I was told that John Deere is now 100% Chinese owned. In 2 yearsthe name will be china deere,or something like that

No... unless it happened in the last day. Fiat has spun off the industrial division which included CNH, Iveco etc into Fiat Powertrain... simply to separate it from the automotive end of the company. Ownership remains unchanged.... and I would be very surprised if Fiat divested their interest in FIAT powertrain given it's what's actually making money for them right now... not cars.

All the new ones are all electronic. Find a good service shop is the key. Make doesn't make to much difference at over 100hp. Under that there not made in the US.

All I can say is that I have seen a NH T6000 give alot of trouble. Front axle wasn"t heavy enough for loader use, trans wasn"t heavy enough for loader use and last I heard the engine was causing problems. Very well could be the pump or something cause that"s the last I heard from the owners. This was a T6050 with 16x16 with appropiate ALO loader on it. The T7000 is better for sure. I think they had a few problems but had them sorted out pretty quick. Not sure on JD or MF

Well, not 100%- cause I own a few Deere shares. Would be willing to bet there are several other Americans who do, too.

Some good points below. I have never paid much attention to what dealers we have locally when buying used tractors- because you can get parts for anything with a parts manual and a telephone. But that's for tractors I can fix myself.

For new tractors, which nobody can fix themselves, get the brand with the best local dealer support.

This is my MF5465 which is only 100HP, 2 years old now.

I would highly recommend looking at a 6000 series MF in the size range you are looking at IF you have a decent dealer nearby.

I looked at JD, NH and MF when I bought this and decided on the MF and am very glad for it so far. JD was much higher priced and NH had 3 levels of tractor and only the elite version had the common rail injection and options to match the MF.

Also I deal alot with the close by NH dealer as most of my implements are NH and their tractor bay is ALWAYS full of tractors being split. This isn't a large dealer and the amount of NH's in their receiving major service just really scared me.

Check out the Massey

Agco is building a new factory in Minnesota to build high horsepower wheel tractors here in the US.

I currently have a NH TS110 and it is a little light in the heavy clay soil of eastern Wisconsin. I simply thought I could learn some things from the combined knowledge of you and others. I am probably only going to buy one new tractor of this size in my lifetime and I'd like to do the best I can. Thanks for giving me your time and help!

Those Challangers are expensive arent they? My friend wanted to trade in his Ford TW5 for a Challanger about the same size, said he got sticker shock, He seemed to think the TW5 is worth around $20,000 dunno though, lol, J

I really don't know what they're like on price. I would assume that they're competitive with everything else in their class or they wouldn't sell. I know they're mostly the same platform as the Massey's of a similar size and they looked like a good tractor to me. Downside is having to deal with an AGCO dealer... I guess if someone had a good local dealer that wouldn't be a problem.
For my own part I fully intend to stay with my Ford's for a long time to come yet.

A MF6480 or something like that would be nice, they aren't that heavy but are meant to hang a few ton off the front when you need the weight.

I rather like my MF 5455 except I wish it had the Dyna 4 transmission. The 6400's have Dyna 6 or CVT's I think.
