Dirty rain??? Is there such a thing

Listening to the news and also on line and just heard them say last nights rain here in Missouri was a dirty rain. Any body ever heard of it?? My wife did say this morning that her car looked sort of odd like it had dirt or something on it

Depends on how muchdust is in the air I guess.......... Dark colored vehicles can get pretty nasty when it rains after a long dry spell, especially at harvest time. Couldn't tell it by my vehicle though :roll:

I DID wash it today though

We had a rain a few years back that came in from the SW. Came in from Ok where a big wind storm pickup red dirt. The dirt came down with the rain in SE Iowa.

Everything was red for a few days till another rain washed it off.

A few years ago we were at Grand Junction Co and were going to eat supper at Golden Corral. There was a storm brewing in the State Park near there and it hit about the time we got inside the restuarant. We came out from supper and that was the muddiest bunch of cars I ever saw, so yes it can rain dirt. Joe

Common occurance in Australia, dirt put up in the atmosphere from somewhere,See Melbourne dust storm 8th February 1983, lots of good pictures.followed by rain and 8 days later, bushfires.Nature at its worst.

Living in west Tx we get them every now and then. Rains mud balls, usually more dirt than rain.

We've had a dirtstorm one time with a little rain mixed in one time that left everything looking from one side like it was made out of adobe!

The dust/mud layer probably averaged 1/8 of an inch thick!

It was a red tinted rain. Even this mornings rain looked like river water on the windshield. Those 35+ MPH southerly wind gusts yesterday brought a little Oklahoma up here. Mark

YES, when i got up this morning there was slight covering of dirt on my truck, and it had rained all night lastnight, then when i went to lunch the rain had left another coating of dirt on my truck, all the vehicles today look like they have been running up and down a dirt road

between the earthquake and the dirty rain it's been weird

Here in MD, my black painted truck had brown sooty looking stuff on it today. It didn't have this dust on it the day before it rained.

I suppose rain can have a mineral content in it.

In tropical rainforests, rain which falls is often a hundred percent pure. Mexico city rain? that would be nasty!

Rain, and snow will condense on dust particles in the atmosphere. A good rainstorm will cleanse a lot of dirt out of the atmosphere, and put it all on your car.

Yep it came from TX my car was clean last night dirty this morning. Some people I work with were driving in the rain going to work this morning and their wiper were just smearing mud.
