Looking at these two combines. Which one would you rather have and why? Looking for everybody's opinion on this. Thank Guys

The 1660 has much more capacity.

It's newer, easier to work on and it will be easier on the grain.

Whats hard about bailing strong from an axial flow? Ive heard stories but dont know what it is that makes it hard?

A rotary combine really chews up the straw, it is much finer and you are unable to pick it up with the baler.

Comparing those two is like comparing an Red Delicious Applw with a Road Apple, they are both round and tha is about it.

The 1660 is a simpler machine with more capacity, a better cab, and easier to work on.

Switch to smooth grates when running wheat then you have no problems baling straw. Around here straw run through a rotary will bring a premium at auction it's one of the few things an amish will pay extra for

I've had a 6620 for a while now and would say it is a good combine. They did offer them without turbo and with a V-belt variable speed and while that may suffice I would find the more common turbo-equipped and hydrostatic drive models. I run a 915 flex platform and in heavy beans can run 4 MPH and even faster if conditions are ideal. I run a 643 corn head and while the power is there the cleaning shoe is a little maxxed out in 200 bushel corn especially if the trash is wet. They do a good job of leaving high quality baling straw.
The 1660 is also a good combine but with grain prices up now they are selling at quite a premium currently. Around here I would say the 1660 goes for about double what the Deere goes for. But you have to remember the 1660 has considerably more capacity and is newer technology. While each make and model has its positives and negatives it should be noted that at least around here guys have "blown" the rotor cage in tough conditions and they are not cheap to fix. The positive is a rotary can work on days where the vegetation of the bean plant will be too tough for a conventional combine.
