SOME OF YOU GUYS MAY LIKE TO TEACH ME .. HOW IMPORTANT ARE GROUND CABLES FOR POINTS SPARK ?..been trying to get fire thru points on a 64 willys -Jeep pickup 6cyl. there is fire all over distributor ,, but none thru points ,, son come to conclusion lone ground strp is filthy at contact points to engine block and frame ,, there is none at starter or firewall , personally , i don't think that is real problem , SINCE STARTER WORXAND NO DOUBT grounded thru drive train ,motor mounts ect ,,.//? but ground does need inproved so we will try that ,,,

Might try and change the condenser inside the distributor.Found that problem wayyyyyyyy back when on a 37 chev . and also on Sons Army jeep (we still have) and someday going to restore. Regards LOU.

i could buy a couple gallons of diesel if i had a nickel for every bad condensor i got out of a box...especially nowadays...if you find the word china on it or box it came from try another.

Sorry, but I don't understand "fire all over distributor but none through points".

When the points are open, do you read voltage (~8 volts for a 12 volt system) between the distributor side of the coil and ground? If you don't get voltage, either you aren't getting voltage to the coil, the coil is bad or you have a bad ground.

When the points are closed, do you get zero volts at the same location? If the point voltage doesn't go to zero, either the points aren't closing, the points are bad, or the distributor isn't grounded (unlikely).

Some distributors have internal ground strap/wires that are usually under one of the screw that hold the points down. If not used it can cause all types of problems. The distributor in FE Ford engine use this. One time the BIL miss putting one of them back on on his pick-up. The engine would run but not well. reconnected the ground wire and all was well. On a points system, when the points are closed, there should not be any voltage on the point side of the coil. If there is voltage, you have a grounding problem somewhere.

If it ran before I'd try the old condenser.
was the coil removed?
maybe someone thinking needing the + side to points as I have seen done.

I don't remember for sure did the 64's have the ballast resistor on the firewall ? You can bypass that to try but not recommended to run all the time on full 12 V.
