OT Shuttle Launch

I watched it live and noticed from the external tank camera a couple tiles come off the nose after it was up into space. Nobody said anything though.

On the Evening News, They said the tiles were off one of the extra fuel tanks. Would not cause any problems now.

The commentary that I heard was that it was foam from the tank, and the video they replayed clearly showed it and it was obvious where it had come off of.

Came off a 3.70 into the launch.

That is good to hear that it is from the tank.

I always cringe and hold my breath right after they announce from the ground: "go at throttle up". I've noticed since the shuttle disaster that the pilot no longer responds with: "Roger, go at throttle up". Now it is just a one word acknowledgement.

Well what was scary to me was the fire coming out of the top of the solid rocket booster. That's what blew on the Challenger. And what they delayed the launch for three months for.

Impressive for 1960's technology to still be flying into space in 2011.
Ever notice how much military and space hardware exists from the TV days of Joe 90 and Thunderbirds ?
